63/37 ?
Hi all, I just picked up some lead/tin bars. I think they are lead /tin. on the bars is stamped (63/37) and also (FEDERATED FRY). Can you all tell me what i have? I am thinking 63 tin and 37 lead. But i'm not sure. I also got some pure lead in the form of shower liner sheet. If possable, I would love someone to give me a good mix combo of these that would be good for boolits.
Thanks, Troy |

Troy, You have what you thought it was. The 63/37 is very good to work with. Go to the sticky section and look for the different mixes of alloys . I don't know what you are shooting or your needs. Pure lead mixed with tin will give you good bullets for many uses.

you didn't say what you were going to do with your boolits.
target work in a 38, 40-1 to start, a 45-70, 30-1 or 20-1. rifles 10-1. 44 mag with g/c 30-1 and up to 20-1. or even 16-1 for plain based magnum stuff.

Just keep in mind, tin costs about $10.00 per pound. I would use it only as a 2-3% tin mix and find a source of antimony to use as a hardener.
Other note: I had in the past bought and used 30% antimony superhard from rotometals. Recently I bout some more and that batch was quite different. There was so much antimony that I could not use the botton spout. I had to stir and ladel the stuff into smaller ingots. I think it was more like 50%

I an casting 40 cal. from a TL401-175-SW lee mold and plan to cast 9mm out of a lee TL mold also later on. I will not be using a sizer unless I have to. would it be better if I use antimony?

yes.
some lino cut with your pure would definately help with both of those cals. 50-50 up to 2 yours one lino or get an enrinchment alloy and shoot for 4% antimony and 1% tin to start.

I, too, have some 63/37 ingots. I use them to sweeten the pot when the alloy doesn't want to act right. Grab an ingot with vise-grips, dip it in the pot until about 1/2 to 1" (depending on how full the pot is) has melted in. Adds just enough tin for good fillout.
