    Question Magnus fp in 30-06

GOT A GOOD DEAL ON MAGNUS 155gr .310 Dia. FLAT NOSE CAST BULLETS AT LAST GUN SHOW - USUALLY LOADED FOR 30-30 LEVER ACTIONS - I'M THINKING ABOUT LOADING SOME FOR MY 30'06s (SAVAGE 110 & M1917) - LIGHT LOADS WITH TRAIL BOSS (11.5grs). PROBLEM IS IN SEATING THE BULLET - WHEN I MEASURED THE "COAL" TO THE LANDS MEASURES 2.877" IN THE SAVAGE & 2.915" IN THE M1917 - IS THIS RIGHT OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

Diameter of throat vs. diameter of boolit nose? an you measure either?

Remember, we don't know you and have no idea how much or little experience you have nor do we know how much you know about what you are trying to do.

    What's unusual with that length?
Is that exposing a lube grove above the neck? If so I'd not wory much about it.

haven't loaded any cast - usually use lee or speer manuals for loading J word bullets - measued by putting bullet into 1x fired case from rifle & chambering - also measured from bolt face to muzzle and from bullet held in barrel to muzzle for each rifle

I see people all the time wanting to know the OAL of a load.

In my mind that is a point that isn't worth the print.

Show me 10 ea., 30/06 rifles, different brands, different gunsmiths building them, different throating reamers used on the rifles, etc.

The COAL for each of the 10 rifles will be slightly different. So my point is, if someone offers you that data, what is it good for ?

A better question is......." Do you know exactly how to establish the COAL for your specific rifle ? "

I'm sure no expert and I might even be way off here, but... Couldn't you load a dummy round at what fits the mag well and try to close the bolt. Try to seat it and tweak it until it feels right. Seat a little shorter or a tad longer until you get the optimum for your rifles. That's what I do ( I haven't lost any body parts yet) As I said I may be way off base from your question, but that's never stopped me before from giving my opinion.

In my Rossi single shot 308 I seat the boolit out as far as it will go and STILL can't hit the rifling. Accurate little gun though.
