He has WC872, WC860 also, think it was the same price.

Also has 30 carbine jacketed bullets fro those so inclined. $12 per 100, $100 per 1,000.

I just bought some WC-860 from Jeff. It's $72 for 8#. After adding the Hazmat fee and shipping, it cost me $10.52 a pound. Depending upon bullet weight, I use 32 and 34 grains in my 38-55 and 57 grains in my 45-70. I use 2.5 grains of WW-231 in the 38-55 to ignite the WC-860 and 3.0 grains of 231 in the 45-70. They are compressed loads and the average deviation in both cartridges is 10 FPS.

If Barttlet lowered the price of this "SURPLUS" powder to were it was a few years ago, otherwise $100 is too much. I bought from him WC846, 7.62mm LC brass when times were good, he had a good deal back then.

I bought #8 of H4895 from Bruno's locally for $142.00. #4 of SR4759 was $64.00.
I'd rather give a little extra to a local guy than out of state and shipping companies.

Don't have to worry about a big change in the next batch either.

Pat's Reloading also has some powders back in stock also, don't remember the type and prices though. Seemed cheaper than Bartlett's.

I drove to clevland after slick willie and reno took over and bought 100 lbs from pat. I think 50 of wc860 was 1.50 and 50 of wc852 was 3.50. I'm surprised 860 works in a 45-70. I couldn't get enough in a 300 winchester magnum, with 150 grain bullet.

Using a 305 grain SAECO plain-base bullet (design is supposedly 300 grains) and 50/50 alox-beeswax lube, I got exactly 1600.9 FPS average from my 30" Pedersoli 1874 Sharps. Average deviation is 10.2 FPS with a max deviation of 23 FPS.

WC-860 is such a slow burner that it absolutely needs the 3.0 grains of WW-231 (3.0 grains of Bullseye works great also) and a moderate crimp for proper ignition. I use a standard primer and the load must be slightly compressed. Used alone, even with a mag primer, WC-860 will leave a large amount of unburned powder in the bore but loaded as I describe, there is little residue.

I've not tried a 405 grain bullet with the WC-860 but I'd expect something in the 1400 - 1500 FPS range. Depending upon how the bullet is seated, the amount of WC-860 in the case would vary but the results would be consistent and likely quite accurate.

I use 55grs of WC860, 5gr of Promo as a kicker; under a 400gr paper patched bullet. I get about 1550 fps with rather low variance in velocities. This is out of a Buffalo Classic. I actually prefer to use the WC860 in the .45-70 than in a bottle necked case. To figure charge size I put in 5gr of the kicker, then keep adding WC860 with a Lee dipper while keeping track of the total volume. By holding a bullet along side the case I found out how much WC860 to add to get about 1/8" compression. of the powder charge. This method seems to work best for me.

I'm guessing all of these WC 860 loads are probably down in the BP pressure range also.

I have 16 lbs of comparable powder to burn up, might as well be 55 or so grains at a time out of the 45-70.

I use WC872 for 45-70 loads. Like the 860, a kicker is needed. I use 4 grs. of 4198 and then a case full of powder for a compressed load. It's a good load, keeping 10 shots in 1 1/2"-2" at fifty yards, and I can't see anymore, this from a Buffalo Classic. Without the kicker you get a barrel full of trash...Ray

I too have been experimenting with wc 860 and a kicker of 2 grains of bullseye in the 35 whelen and the 280 grain lead boolit. I don't know the velocity because my pact went south after a 500 boswell was fired across it last year. The kicker load burns clean and is accurate. I tried doing something similar with the 30-06, it hasn't worked yet. More experimenting when I have time. Jim

Surplus powder was a great value when it there was a significant discount.
It has reached parity with canister powder. It is no longer a deal.

Why drive to Cleveland when Pat is in Massillon???

I used to buy from Bartlett. Both he and Pat must be trying to go out of business; I rarely even check their stock anymore because I have no intention of paying new price for pulldown or Chinese powder. Why would I do that?
As far as I am concerned, he can burn it all in a big bonfire if he's gonna charge those prices for it.
