    Storing Lead

Was able to smelt a pretty good amount of range lead the other day into muffin ingots but am now faced with how best to package and store it... Would appreciate any opinions based on your experiences....

I keep mine in Rubbermaid Containers inside a room in my workshop. Seperate containers and ingot shapes depending on Alloy.

I keep a couple hundred pounds in 5-6 pound ingots and make 25 pound pigs out of the rest.
Its a lot easier to deal with that way. It stacks high if I want and not so many pieces if I want to move it.
It is a little hassle to remelt the 25 pounders but its worth it to me.

I throw all of my ingots in milk crates and stack them two high. I havent been brave enough to go for three high. WW to be smelted waits their destiny in 5 gallon buckets.

I put my ingots in 5 gallon buckets, or other containers, with a stick of wood that I write on it with a Sharpie, what is in the bucket; i.e. WW, rangescrap, lead, lino, etc. I don't stack, I drop them into it. I have enough to do without stacking lead to make it look pretty. I was going to mark the ingots individually but same problem as stacking; too much time for too little benefit. YMMV.

5 gallon buckets, kitty litter buckets, and ammo cans. I make sure the buckets are where I want them before I fill'em, because I can't push them afterwards.

    Good morning
I store my lead right where I cast & smelt. In a garage in east central ILL on the 2x4 sill plate that sits on the cement blocks is my WW. My Linetype is in a 5 gallon bucket sitting on a 2x4 shelf on the bottom of the workbench. My pure lead is in another bucket next to the linetype. It will sit there for about 3 years until I return. Through sub-zero to 100 degres humidity there it sits. Has never disolved, distorted or changed colors. Been doing this for 25 years now.
My already cast sit in small boxes with our other stuff in storage. No losses.

5 gallon buckets with a clear plastic bag over them to keep the ingots clean.

Five gallon frosting buckets that I get from a local bakery. They come with lids that have a rubber gasket that seals them to prevent the ingots from oxidizing. An added bonus, when I open them to get ingots, they still smell like frosting.

I have a 30 gallon steel drum full of Lee ingots and 6 or 7 five gallon buckets full of ingots or wheel weights and they are outside next to my smelting table. They all have holes in the bottom to drain water.

I did milk crates at first but I had at one time bought tall kitchen garbage can type animal food containers with snap tops. They're cheap at Wallyworld and worked well for keeping the water out of my unmelted WW (which used to be stored outside). Well when my buddy Afrance started helping make purdy ingots from my WW mountain I wasn't sure what to do with them.

Then I moved. Let me tell you if you're moving a full house across town WW ingots are not as fun to tote as you might imagine. Imagine 100 pound boxes the size of toasters (i didnt want my movers knowing I had lead). But I digress...

When I moved I didnt want my 3 1/2 year old playing with my lead. so I started stacking the ingots in vertical I found that pack pretty nicely inside and the sides never come close to busting. The tops snap shut so I never have to worry about sticking in a half wet ingot into my pot so no more tinsel fairy house visits.
