    And my uderstanding is
Smith & Wesson will not release the tool to a gunsmith
Unless they have gone through some school

As my local gunsmith could not get the tool from Smith
    That might have changed
But when I was looking at one , he could not fix on and had to send it to Smith to have it fixed

Casting a steel insert like a bolt or similar into the bbl with cerrosafe would probably
    work fine.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.

It does... A piece of square stock welded to a piece of pipe for a T-handle is just the ticket. But you need to preheat the square stock before you pour the cerrosafe to get good fillout of the rifling...

    Interesting.

Doing any barrel removal is something that is beyond my capabilities. Making some sort of insert and doing one of these, is off the chart.

No need to make a special tool. Several 'smiths have had success by centering the long leg a large allen wrench in the barrel and filling it with Cerosafe. The short leg can be held in a vise or turned with a large wrench, whichever your preferred method is.

I can't imagine shooting my 342PD enough times to wear out a barrel. I'd wear out my wrist first!
