Low light sights or optics for an SKS?
For my kind of hunting an SKS could work for about 90% of shots. The only problem is the fact that most of my hunting is pigs in low light conditions. The Tech Sight I have on my SKS currently works great in the light, but come sunset the iron sights just disappear. I have been thinking about putting a low powered quality scope on mine. Am I crazy? I don’t expect the scope to make the gun more accurate, just easer to use in the dark. What is a good method of attaching the scope? Also thoughts on other forms of sights will appreciated. Thanks.

I wont not ever use a bolt cover mount. This mid mount replaces the rear sight.
This is a Vortex red/green dot scope. The lens covers arent the best that come with it, but the sight works well out to 100 yards, and cut holes at 50 My wife cant hit the broadside of a barn with iron sights. She can hit a beer can at 50 yards with this set up. Even shoots in the dark. ![]()

Have you ever used the fiber optic sights? They work well on a bow in low light and I know they make one for the SKS. May want to give that a try before buying a mount and scope.

these mounts are pretty good:
http://161.58.206.244/store/merchant...uct_Code=SK-1B My buddy has one with a low cost reddot. not a tackdriver, but as you said- its not its purpose. Probably would be a pretty good pig setup.

I believe this is it. You remove your rear sight and it sits in the base. As you can see both the front and rear sight has been removed from this SKS The scope is forward of the ejection port. Stripper clips fit right behind the scope. There is an 2x magnifier that came with the scope, which cant be used due to teh forward scout mounting.

What kind of scopes can I use with a mount like that? Long eye relief? Or only red dot?

I took it off and shot it several times with no sights, and sent it back. This one has worked great for over a year now. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...scope-for-ar15 As you can see I did not put it on an AR-15, The mono mount worked great with the above scope base. Unlike the model listed above, mine came with a mono mount, flip caps (they arent that good) and 2x magifier. I guess you will have to look for that package. SWFA matched every price I found, I got it from them.

Check out "Surplusrifle.com", click the SKS link; there are several articles on scoping the SKS; only one actually worked.

low light iron sight
I too have the tech sight and I found that the Williams Fire sight is too tall for use with that rear. I obtained a tritium AK front sight and that solved the problem
