Recycling PC boolits?

I finally got around to powder coating a load of 9mm 147 grainers using Smoke's powder. I had about a 10% reject rate due to a combination of a casting issue that I didn't notice until I coated them, and my sloppy shake and bake PC process. Is there any issue with just throwing the rejects back in the current melt with the coating on them?

I do it. Works fine.

Yes it's fine to throw them back in. No harm to the lead. However you will have smoke from burning the coating off so do in a well ventilated area.

Toss em in the pot and the pc will float to the top.

I melted a good handful+ of already PC’d projectiles. The burn off smell of the PC can be a tad powerful. Ventilation is helpful.

One thing I really like about recycling Hi-Tek coated bullets from my bullet trap is that there is no smell of the PC.

Back in 2019 I pulled a lot of PC'd casts out of my stock as I wasn't loading that profile from Lee anymore...combined them with PC'd cast that had been rejected over several years and I reclaimed all that pistol lead...



It was smokey & stinky, no biggie but...it left me with a heck of a messy pot that I had to scrape the heck out of...



Normally when I recycle lead from my target backstop there is about 60% PC'd casts there but it is not such a mess as this above pot was. I did use a lot of sawdust and the PC seemed to attach to it.
Again...no biggie, just takes a little more elbow grease in the clean-up.

yes I would expect you had some PC adhere to the walls with that much at one time
That much PC cant just float to the top. A little too thick its going to go somewhere.
I usually put 100 to maybe 200 reject coated bullets to a pot of casting lead and it really does float to the top and ladle out easily

So I'm thinking I'll add these to the next batch of alloy I make, (outdoors), rather than throwing them into the casting pot, (indoors). I'll need to be a little more careful sorting out the rejects before I PC them next time.

I just add a hand full every now and then to my pot so I don't over load it with powder coat material.

I do the same. Keeps the smoke down too.
