    Skinner Sights

Do you need to remove the buckhorn rear sight on a Henry if you install a skinner rear on the receiver? My question is can I lower the rear blade and get it out of the way short of taking it off?

    .

The problem with not replacing the open rear sight with a dovetail slot filler is that there won't be a clear field of view with the rear sight in the sight picture, especially during fast sight acquisition as in hunting, etc.

While commercial slot fillers are available for about $7, I learned & prefer to make mine from old longleaf rear open sights that can be had from most real gunsmiths for a dollar or two.

I put a skinner on my big boy steel a couple of yrs. ago and all I did was remove the ramp from the rear sight. It worked very well. I have since removed the skinner, installed the dove tail blank and succumbed to the reality that my old eyes just won't adjust to the front and rear buckhorn open sights anymore. I've been thinking about just selling the skinner as I'll probably never use it again.

Seeker,i would be interested in your Skinner sight if you decide to sell. I just bought a steel Henry in 30-30.
