Remington 760 and 740 Same Barrel Extension?

I have a Remington 760 that I was considering making a second barrel for. Does anyone know if a Remington 740 uses the same barrel extension as the 760? Looking at pictures they look the same, have the same number of lugs etc.. I'm looking at the 740 because they seem to sell for less. I have several other barrels that I can thread for the barrel extension. Thanks for any help!

I swapped out a 760 barrel on a 742 no problem bolted right up ( never removed the extension just used it complete with the barrel). not sure about the 740 but I think it'll probably be the same.

You were able to use the bolt from one and barrel from the other? That sounds promising to me. I would think the 740 would be similar to the 760 because they were developed closer in time.

If you put a 760 on a 742- were you just checking the fit or making a straight pull bolt action?

I converted the 742 to a pump. I put the 760 barrel on the 742 receiver. I need to use a slide and pump forend also changed out the bolt head. Worked out well just has the extended slot in the receiver.
The .270 has the swapped out 760 barrel.

Very nice conversion. Any chance you have any left over barrels? The auctions I was watching on eBay went higher than I thought they would. If I don't end up finding a donor barrel I'll build out a Mauser or have my 30-06 760 barrel bored out.
