.357 Mag / 38 Special
.44 Mag / 44 Special
45 Colt
.454 Casull
444 Marlin
45-70
44-40
450 Marlin
30-30
35 Remington
Of the choices, I'd have to go with a .444; the .45-70would be 2nd, but I still love my .35 Rem.

A thoughtful mind, when it sees a Nation's flag, sees not the flag only, but the Nation itself; and whatever may be its symbols, its insignia, he reads chiefly in the flag the Government, the principles, the truths, the history which belongs to the Nation that sets it forth.

I have to go for the .357 for a couple reasons. Number one, I have a .357 revolver and like the simplicity of having a lever gun in the same cartridge. The second reason is that I know I can handle a .357 magnum revolver, but not anything more powerful.
After that, my second choice would probably be a .30-30.

I chose 30-30 because I’ve got a Winchester that my Grandfather bought for my Dad in 1957 and Dad gave it to me before he died. I’ve got two Henry’s in 22lr but I wish I’d have gotten a 22mag on the plain one but I won it so I can’t complain. I do want one in .357/.38 one day.

Hard to choose only one, and glad I don't have to.
As to the above choices I have at least one of all of them with the exception of 3, 454, 45/70, & the 450.
I even own a few not mentioned.

I have what else I need, but my closest shooting range has only 200 meters.
therefore I had to pick a .444. no regrets_
Food is overrated. A nice rifle is way more important.

I am a bit surprised to see a couple of dozen votes for the Casull! The criteria for choice was not queried: To wit, for accuracy, range, killing power, et cetera. My favourite shooter is an old, hoe-handled shape Marlin 336 I bought for quite the low price (due to it's unattractive condition) at a gun show where dealer voiced his being tired of carrying it from show to show to show ... Anyhoos, I took this crappy-looking .30-30 on a deer hunting trip on a MOST stormy day (didn't want my 'good' rifle tainted by weather) with my younger son -- to learn both it is dead-on accurate; a joy to carry; and (another 'negative') the quite old (in the days when they were made by Redfield and simply rebranded) TASCO ********* scope turned out (to my great surprise!) to also be a joy.
VERY subjective here -- but this is why I chose the ubiquitous .30 WCF / .30-30.

Just bought a Taylor/Uberti 1876 in 45LC last week!!!!! I can load up or down as needed for my Blackhawk Rugers and now Rifle.
ive been giving this an awful lot of thought lately while I'm reconsidering wants and needs in my life since having my world turned upside down in a life changing vehicle accident back in October. and I'm leaning towards the old ugly marlin texan rc 35 rem. one primary reason is that the old RCBS 35-200 bullet just plain works in it and works real well with several different powders and great accuracy for what it is and ever since shooting the first cast bullet in never ever got any leading problem and can push those cast bullets right up close to factory ammo velocity.
35 rem for me
I've dropped deer, turkey, boar, and small game with my 45Colt loads.
That's my choice
If you had to pick one Lever Action Rifle, what caliber who you choose?
Yes I have a pre-64 Winchester 94 in 30/30. But, if I could only have (1) I would have to hang onto my Marlin 336 30/30 scoped and set up for Hornady's flex tip ammo.

He smiled. “Men do not learn from history. Each generation believes itself brighter than the last, each believes it can survive the mistakes of the older ones. Each discovers each old thing and they throw up their hands and say ‘See! Look what I have found! Look upon what I know!’ And each believes it is something new.

My favorite cartridge isn't listed - the 38-55.
Runner up - 44 Special

well I TRADED out the one I should never have got rid of. best handling and shooting bush rifle ever made, more than accurate enough for open country work and enough velocity for longer shots. suppressed .308w BLR one of the older steel action models...my good mate has it now, cant see it ever leaving his possesion.
for sure the trigger would suck and blow at same time...but it still shot sub inch with most of my humble reloads, was a joy to carry and shouldered well.
