I know this is for Shilohs but I also have this really nice Taylors & Co. 45-70, Schnable forearm, beautiful polished and blued barrel.

I just got my letter from Shiloh to build my 1877 Sharps English Sporting Rifle #1 , 4 years,4 months, 4 days and some hours. The long wait is because of infrequency of making round barrels there will most likely be an announcement for the round and super heavy barrels from Shiloh,it’s kinda of a big deal from them.
My 1877 rifle will have a Cecil Freddi AA grade English Walnut blank turned by Shiloh, 32” round polished barrel, schnabble forearm, Rigby flat, polished fire blued screws , brass escutcheons and AA finished, 45 -70
Got this a year or so back, just never posted a picture in this section.
Shiloh Sharps Business Rifle chambered for the 50 2-1/2" Sharps Straight, otherwise known as the 50-90 Sharps, and historically as the Big Fifty Sharps. It's a hoot to shoot unless you're setting at a shooting bench. Then, at least for me, it kicks like a mule. Still makes me smile when all that blackpowder goes off and that big chunk of lead slams into a rock out in the desert.

What beautiful rifles! This is my "dream gun" right now. I may have to go ahead and get one before I retire in 2 decades or so.

I have had my new 45-70, 34" bbl, Shiloh Sharps Montana Roughrider out twice so far. It shot about 4-5 inches to the right at 50 yds. Adjusted the sights but have not shot at 100 yds yet to see how it prints. My old eyes do not like the buckhorn rear sights. I am thinking about a tang sight but do not know if it will be any better for these 76 year old eyes.
I like the gun, shoots nice with my reloads so far. Plain stock, great fit and finish, very well made buy Shiloh.
Loving these Shilohs! I am forunate to own a Pedersoli 1874 in .45-70 and am absolutely in love with it! I won't disrespect the OP's thread by posting pix of a non-Shiloh in it, but Pedersoli makes one hell of a rifle, too!

Use a file to open up the notch in the rear sight a little. It will help a lot. By all means, get a quality vernier rear tang sight. Get a extra eye piece with the largest aperture available. The aperture rear sights are much much better for older eyes.
Here's the one I usually pick up to take hunting. A #3, 26 inch barrel in 45 2 1/10, MVA tang sight.Attachment 291584

I got myself a pedersoli in 45 90, long range range model last year. I figured that if I got bored with it, it wouldn’t be a big deal. The problem I didn’t get bored.
So this pedersoli is quite nice. The wood has complex grain, the rifle is quite well made and very accurate but I kind of wanted something special so I ordered a Shiloh yesterday.
Now I couldn’t have my Shiloh look less fancy than my pedersoli so this thing is expensive…twice as much as the Italian. I hope I won’t regret this.

Not sure where to put this, but here goes. Just pk-up a Shiloh sharps, .45 cal.2 1/2, marked on barrel " 1889/1989 Centinela". Could not get lever & blocks out, (stuck tight), used a pad & brass pin, got them taped out (gently). This is BP model, there is a Brass ring in the chamber that is not correct, and it is causing the binding, is the Brass ring replaceable. And can this rifle be converted to Brass cartridges? You can tell i am totally lost, any help would be appreciated.
coffee's ready, Hootmix.

I’ve never heard of a blackpowder cartridge called the “.45-2-1/2,” there was a 2.4” and a 2.6” cartridge in that caliber, but no 2.5”.
Except for the chambering in .30-40 Krag, all the Shiloh chamberings are blackpowder calibers. I’ve never heard of that 1889-1989 centennial thing. The Sharps company failed in 1881; don’t know what would be commemorated eight years after they went out of business.
Does it have a case head separation, with the case stuck in the chamber? Or is this a percussion model, maybe with one of those Pedersoli percussion brass cases somehow stuck in there? A picture of this rifle would definitely help.
You might post your query on the Shiloh Sharps web site, or even call the Bryans with the serial number and see what they can tell you.
Almar—
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, if you like Sharps rifles in the first place. Pedersolis are well made and shoot and function perfectly satisfactorily, but if Pedersolis are fitted together water-tight, Shilohs are fitted together air-tight. There is also sort of a voluptuousness in the way the Shilohs handle and work that is noticeable compared to the Pedersolis: the hammer pulls back to half-cock just enough to clear the firing pin, but no further; springs are just strong enough to function properly, but no stronger, the cocking, levering and trigger-setting is markedly less effort, etc; a very nice job all around. If you can borrow a copy of Clyde Baker’s Gunsmithing, the section on “hard-fitting” is a very good description of how a gun thus put together works, compared to a standard factory product, although Clyde describes it for double-barrel shotguns rather than rifles.
