    A Million Thanks with Pics

Got back into shooting last fall after a 20 year break. Bought a 45ACP as I'd always wanted to try an auto. It was great but ammo was eating me alive. I had cast for a BP 44 years ago and decided to begin casting again.

Ordered a 230g RN mould from Lee for the 45 on January 10th. It finaly came in Friday(3/13). I followed most of the advice I'd gotten from the stickies and tutorials and began dropping good boolits after the first 4. It was no more difficult than when I'd cast for the 44 way back when. Actually it was easier because all the good advice posted on this forum from you nice folks that were willing to share your knowledge.

1,000,000 Thanks to everyone for tips on cleaning mould, Leementing, casting with glove instead of a knock stick, temp, cooling mould with wet towel, etc.

    Here is the stuff

Pot is loaded and ready to go

    Dropping boolits

They add up fast even from a 2 holer

600 Lubed with LLA and drying

After 1 weekend of piddling around I've got 1,400+ boolits lubed up and waiting to be loaded when my press comes in the next week or two.

Way to go, seems you were a tad busy getting that many cast up.

Mules, I have to agree that the advise and info here is great. I was referred here a month or so ago from another forum. Once I had the equipment and raw material, I was up and running/casting. Shot my first cast bullets last week, and am ready to do it again.

    Hang Fire,

I wasn't all that busy. About 3 hrs on Friday, 4 on Saturday, and 3 today. Was a good way to pass the time since it rained all weekend.

Congratulations! You'll love shooting them up, too.

Just got my Lee 6 cavity mold in after a long 2 month wait. Once again, after all the great tips I'd gotten here I was up and running with it in about 90 minutes. All went well and I was dropping nice boolits from the get go. Sure is a big change from the 2 cavity I'd been using for the 45acp. Dang but those boolits piled up fast. With no effort at all I'm dropping over 600 per hour. I could only do about 180 hour on the 2 cavity.

Again 1 million thanks for a all the helpful hints, tips, tricks, and advice.

It is painfully obvious that you have limited yourself. Need to establish a priority goal system now that you have got the 45 thing under control. Suggest next a 357 both long and hand gun, and then in sequence maybe a 44mag in both long and hand gun. In no time at all, you will be just as happy as a hog in slop, and as adicted as some of the rest of us. Glad you are coming along so well! Good Luck!

Don't forget the other long gun calibers. Try 45/70 and some thirty calibers too!
I see the prices for Jbullets and laugh all the way to the bank. Even my 7.62 Nato rifles like cast boolits and get a lot more play time due to reduced ammo costs.

I'm already casting and loading for my 45acp and 9mm. My next step will be into more 45acp, namely a Thompson semi auto. Always loved those guns. Next step would probably be revolver and rifle in 45 Long Colt. But the Thompson comes first.

You know the 6 bangers turn out gobs of boolits.

But there is just something real sexy about the 3 and 4 holers.... Don't know what it is.
