    30/30 in a Lee Pro 1000

What shell holder would I need to reload 30/30 on my newly acquired Lee Pro 1000
I do know that it would be easier to use a Turret Press, but I do not have one.

Has any of you reloaded 30/30 on a Lee Pro 1000?

Thanks for any and all info.

Not sure what shell holder but you will need their rifle charge die to use with the auto disk.

    Clint,

I don't think the Lee 1000 Progressive will work with a 30-30. Looks like the limitation of the "1000" is the cartridge length, 30-30 is too long for it.

The Lee "Loadmaster" Progressive does come with a shell plate in 30-30.

    Have Fun,

Forgot I had their catalog and its not showing shell plates for pro 1000 in 30-30 but the load master does thats what I used to have. I was thinking you could load rifle on pro 1000 but maybe not

When the 1000 is stripped down to a simple turret press it will accommodate most standard rifle cartridges.

I have a Pro1000 on the bench and have used it for over two decades. However, I have ONLY loaded small pistol ammo (.38 special, 9mm and .380 ACP) with it. I wouldn't even attempt to load bottle-neck cased ammo with it.

I think the only bottle-neck cased ammo that can be loaded on that press is .223, and even then, not sure I'd do it. The Dillon makes doing .223 way much easier and more pleasant.

But for small pistol ammo, I have zero beef with the Lee Pro 1000.

This is what I received from Lee Customer Support

    Pro 1000 and Rifle Loading

The Progressive 1000 has an overall cartridge length limitation of 2-5/16 inches. Any cartridge longer than this cannot be reloaded on the Pro 1000 because the shell plate starts to index before the cartridge is out of the die.

    Dear sir,

I own a Lee Pro 1000 (Great press),

My question is do you make a Shell plate that will accommodate an 30/30 case? If not will you make one for me? How about .243?

    Thanks for your time

Thanks guys for the info. I'm looking at Loaders and have been looking pretty hard at the 1000. I also have and 30-06 that I might load for later down the road.

If first starting out, I would for sure get a Single stage, I have a Lee 1000 and it does take some getting used to.

Old thread, but just for completeness sake: 30-30 is Maximum Cartridge Length of 2.550 inches. Lee Progressive 1000 Maximum Cartridge Length is 2.3125 inches. You can still load 30-30 on it if you take the spindle rod out and take the shell feeder off. Then you can load them in by hand and rotate the plate by hand, making it a makeshift turret press. Use the 45 acp shell plate.

You can cut .250 off the bullet setting die. That's what I did to load 35 rem at the 2.530 COL works fine. I still have to take out the rod to use the crimp die but I plan to get a single stage press for that. 30-30 will not fit in my 45 shell plate do you have #2 or #2A? Sorry to dig up an old post but I just joined.

I believe the only rifle cartridge that is officially supported on the Pro1000 is the 223/5.56, the 300 BO is doable as it is based on the 223/5.56. I have used a Pro1000 to do 5.56 but it is much easier to use my Loadmaster, and I also load 30-06, 8x57, 300BO and other rifle cartridges on it.

Get yourself a single stage press like a Rockchucker, it is powerful enough for full length sizing and is much easier to safely reload quality ammo......One of the reloading steps is to check the powder levels in all the charged cases before you seat bullets.

Get a single stage press. It should always be the first tool and you will continue using it no matter how many geewhiz presses you buy in the future.

You will start out with the right (normal & common) work habits required to keep you safe rather than being distracted by a work around process.
