Thinking one of these might be neat to have. Has anyone tried them with boolits?

I’ve got one, it’s a great “walking varminter”. They have a 1 in 8 twist. So I believe you’d need a heavy cast bullet. I run Hornady 60 gr V-Max with great accuracy.
Ruger American Compact in 223. I like it very much. Coyotes feel otherwise.

No boolits yet.
Another member here is egging me on by plying me with a bag of his castings in the caliber to me. All I have to do is PC them as they are already sized and checked.
The RAC is my daily driver on the ranch with 52-55 gr j words and has a 305 yd coyotes epitaph notched on it along with a bunch of other lesser ranged ones and I am reluctant to stir things up.
I have a well broken in CZ 527 that probably a 12 twist as it’s from 2005 and I figured on starting cast there as I can take the time to clean it out, try the cast and re-clean it again if things go sideways.
Best regards

I think an American Ranch that uses AR mags is going to join my battery soon. I was wanting a standard Remington 700 but not with the 1:12 twist. Anybody ever put sights on a Ruger American?
Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.
I just had my .308 American compact at the range today. Sighted it in for j words at 100. Was doing an inch easy. Bedded it into a Boyd's laminated stock. I would buy one in .223, they are a good value. Or you could get a CZ 527 that comes with a nice stock and a metal mag.
The compact 223 is a great rifle. the best cheap factory loads are norma tac 55gr. Shoots under 1 moa. If you choose to load use cfe223 and a hornaday 50 or barnes 62gr. Shoots under a half moa.
I've been working with a friends RR in 223 and it won't shoot a dang with 55gn RCBS cast. Bought a Lee 55gn and it won't group either.
Hold Still Varmint; while I plugs Yer!
As I recall I have it running with the Sierra 53 gr HP and BLC-2 with CCI 450 primers right now. I have ran the 55gr SX by Hornady propelled by an obsolete powder (Reloder 11).
The Sierra bullet is doing sub .5”
The Compact is a perfect truck and tractor rifle.

I have an NOE 72 grain mold with the DD band. Wonder how that would work.
