Bought some loose 44 colt ammo. In the bottom of the box was this cylinder.
Marked 45lc and a P letter marking.

I would contact the folks at Taylors Firearms Co. since they sell a bunch of those, and might be able to sell just the cap with firing pins. It looks just like the one for my'58 Remington. They are made with slight differences in cylinder length for guns made by Pietta and Uberti. Pretty sure the "P" means it's for a Pietta as mine all have it. GF
'60 Army has a step in the rebated cylinder.

Hello xringdave,
The P marking is for a Pietta.
Back plates are available from Howell Arms.
AntiqueSledMan.
The cylinders are stamped with a P for Pietta or a U for Uberti
All of mine are from Taylor's which I believe are made by Howell As Mike points out, the 1860 will have the same profile as the percussion cylinder it replaces with a stepped profile. My Taylors 1860 45 Colt conversion cylinder is a 5 shot/chamber cylinder.
My '58 Remington (Uberti) conversion cylinder is a 6 shot/chamber cylinder.
45 Dragoon - Mike - Do you know if Howell made Remington conversion cylinders in 5 shot? Did they always use their offset chamber boring or were their early cylinders bored straight? I have never handled a 45 Colt conversion cylinder for a Pietta Remington - does the measurements and design of the Pietta Remington (.44) dictate that the conversion has to have 5 instead of 6 chambers? I know that my Pietta '60 Army does (have 5 instead of 6 chambers). My Pietta 58 Remington Navy (.36) due to the same size as the Army model has enough room/size that my Taylors/Howell conversion cylinder has 6 chambers in .38 - I use 38 Colt long brass and .375 heeled boolit.
xringday - I agree with Mike - this looks like it's for Remington. I don't know if this will help you or not - My Taylors/Howell 45 Colt 6 shot UBERTI (not Pietta but they should be close) - just as your photo shows - with my digital calipers, my cylinder has an OD of 1.622" and a Length measurement of 1.620". If someone has a 45 Colt conversion cylinder for a '58 Remington, maybe they could take an OD and length measurement so you could compare with yours. I would think that you should be able to buy/order a new cap with the firing pins from Howell?
Bedbugbilly, yes, Howell sold 5 shot cyls while Taylor's were the only ones to sell 6 shot cyls. Today, Howell sells 5 & 6 shot cyls.(in 45 C).
Mike
Cant really tell from the picture...but is the writing engraved into the cylinder? I hope not..
Yes the writing is engraved into the cylinder.
Thanks to all for the info.
