    338 winchester mag lee cast bullet question

    what is the oal - crimp at second lube groove?

    I have always let the gun tell me where to crimp. Seat it out as long as you can, just off the lands. See where that gets you. Most 338 win mag rifles are fed from a staggered magazine, so I wouldn't worry too much about boolit setback. Nice neck tension, maybe a little taper crimp if it does not land on a crimp groove.

    My single-shot 338 WM shot the Lee boolit very well without any crimp as long as I kept the MV over 1650 fps.

    Case is 2.500", from second lube groove to the nose .675". Total is 3.175".

    Lyman #4 sets the OAL with the Lee C338-220-1R at 3.150" for their data .
