Once again sitting here in the pre-dawn waiting on the hogs to show up. There is a feeder 125 yards from the camp which went off at 6:30am and it almost always draws in the hogs according to the camera overlooking it.
Yesterday morning just before the sun peaked out over the Edwards plateau I shot a young boar with a new to me AR10 in 308. The load was a 311041 over RL7 that I had developed for my Marlin bolt gun but even though it is accurate it won’t cycle this rifle. I’ll add pictures later as I have very poor internet service here on the ranch.
Watching the stars fade away as the eastern sky lightens up and listening to nature reminds me how fortunate I am to live in this great country that allows me to enjoy these freedoms and the pursuit of happiness.
More later on what happens today...
The rest of the story and pics. So a few axis deer showed up and even though I could have shot one I have no desire to as their numbers have been severely depleted through over hunting. This corner of paradise is under my temporary care while I’m alive so I just watched them feed. Personally it is not the shots you take but the ones you could have that leave you with great memories.
Attached are 2 pics. The silhouette shot was taken shortly after I shot the hog and the other includes my 18” AR10 for scale. The shot went through the neck and the heart area. It was a bang, flop, twitch kill. The bullet was traveling at around 1900 FPS and it is a good performer.
