    Saeco model 24 furnace question

The lead stream coming out at the bottom through the nozzle is about 1/16 of an inch in diameter. Is this normal? This does not fill a Lyman 457125 fast enough. Are there ways to correct this?

    Thank you,

    Pat

    Saeco model 24 furnace question

Can’t say what the diameter of stream should be cause I haven’t used mine in some time but I never had an issue filling any molds (though none are as large as what you have). I did use mine to fill large sinker molds with no issues though? I can’t say I have noticed a difference in flow rate between my RCBS PM1, Lee Drip-o, and Saeco but I do run all on a PID when used.

Couple of ideas to try first, have you tried using a drill bit to clean the spout fully to help open if slightly clogged? Also, do you use a hot plate with your molds to keep them at temp, might help keep lead molten longer in the mold?

Lastly, is it possible your heating element is going? Might be your upper heating coils are still working and keeping the pot molten but the lower portions are cooler meaning lead comes out cooler from spout? Not sure that’s possible but just a thought. I’ve seen threads on here where they show how you can replace the coil if so inclined.

I used one of those years ago and recall a screw adjustment at the top of the spout stop rod, for controlling lift. More lift would provide more flow.

NUECES has it right. also, the sprue hole on the bottom of the furnace can get clogged with slag. I use a copper wire to clean it out when the furnace is hot. if your mold is hot enough, even a slow stream of lead will fill the mold but you must experiment with the thermostat to find the right casting temperature. good luck
