    32 20 wcf

Just starting to get ready to load for my Uberti Colt Clone in 32 20 and am wanting to use the 120 grain Missouri Bullet but find no data for it. I have a friend that shoots 9.4 grains of 5744 in his but is it possible to just substitute the 120 grain for the using the data for the 115 grain bullet?

You can use any of the Hodgdon data for 115 with no problem. I use that data in my TC with a 6.5 inch barrel. Works good. Neve used 5744 in my 32-20. I use 5744 but with the new lot Western Powder says not to use in small cases.

5744 doesn't burn well in revolvers at standard pressures and you will get unburned powder particles which jam up the gun. Better to use a faster powder like Alliant #2400 about 7 to 7.5 grains with 120-grain bullet, or 9 to 10 grains of IMR4227.

HP38 is nominally similar to W231, but in non-canister grade, which can be safely substituted at that low charge level, OK for older pre-1918 S&W Hand Ejectors which are not heat-treated as well as for pre-1930 Colt Police Positive and Army Special. I have also used 3 grains of Bullseye or TiteGroup with a 120 grain cast bullet, 3.5 grains with 105 grain cast bullet in my older Colts, a mild load which is accurate and effective. I have also used 4.0-4.5 grains of AutoComp with 115-120 grain bullet and 4.8-5.0 grains with 100-grain factory JSP or 105 grain cast bullet, approximating pre-WW2 factory loads with Sharpshooter powder.

I shoot that in a 1923 with 5.4 grains SR4756, if you have any of the *-dot powders you will find a really happy cartridge there. When I exhaust this last pound of 4756 I will work up a new load staring with green, then red, then blue, I bet I’ll and up at 5.4-5.6 grains of green dot as the most accurate repeatable and clean load for this combo. But.... sometime blue dot has turned out to be more flexible as I build new loads to replace decades of 4756 load data.

Have you chronographed that load? Curious. To me seems about 1/2 grain warmish, but if not over 1000 fps maybe not.

I opened up a Lee 113 gr Flat Nose mold which ended up weighing 121gr just for my 32-20's. The load I found that worked best in both rifle and revolver was 8.1gr of 2400. I don't know about 5744 or if you can substitute 115gr data but I do know the 2400 load worked very well.
