Loaded some 278 gr GC boolits with 50.0 grs of Varget made a sharp shoulder and no signs of pressure! Still soot on the neck. JES said he tested the rifle with 58.0 grs of 4064 with a 270 bullet shot fine. Looking for a Redfield one piece Jr mount for a M 70 pre '64 to mount my scope!

I wonder how the .375 would be in a min-80s Browning 1895 that is now an '06? Cast boolits only, of course! GF

Prodigal Son, I load 55gr of Varget behind a 270gr Sierra and if memory is correct it gave a velocity of 2,471fps, I have loaded several grains more but found 55gr to be the sweet spot in my Whelen. Grey Fox, in my view a Whelen is great in any action it fits, but I do like the way you think. Regards Stephen

What does a set of dies for that set you back? A few years ago, I bought a Santa Barbara Mauser with the intent of getting it bored for .35 Whelen. Actually shot it a lot as a .30-06 plinking with cast here at the house and had about decided to just leave it alone for that, but since then, I have gotten neck deep in a .38-55 project and have a lot of cast bullets and molds for it, so this might be as good or better than a Whelen.

That's not bad at all. IS forming cases difficult? Seems like you'd want to neck that up in steps, or do you just fireform them somehow?

No I have a taper die that only open the mouth but does not touch the original shoulder, then neck down to .375 seems to be working out nicely! One pass with the sizer die is no much different, trim to square the mount! From '06 brass too!

I have actually made the 375 Whelen from 270 win as well but I did use the cream of wheat process for that. My brother just opens 30/06 the 375 and seats a bullet and forms them on first firing. Regards Stephen
