    270 Winchester

Sorry - the search function seems down. (maybe its my browser?)

Anyone running cast in 270 Win? My gun shoots well with 150gr jacketed, but I would love to save some $ and make it a little more lead friendly.

there doesn't seem to be many molds (at least at midway) that are available in the right area for lead shooting, which makes me think its really not a great caliber to play around with.

Gun is a Remington 700 ADL.

I have a fair number of boolits in 7mm- could this be sized down you think? Does lee make a push through sizer?

If I size them down and they have a 7mm gas check- will that crush the heal of the bullet?

    thanks!

    Mike

Not sure about the 7mm. I'm paper patching my 270 slugs.

I have put 270 gas checks on 287405 and sized it down to 278 with success.

I had buckshot make me lee type push through dies in 278 and 280 (two rifles, one with a larger throat than the other). Lee will also make you any size you want on request.

I haven't had much problem pushing heat treated RCBS 27-150-SP over 2000fps with 4198 and 3031 (still a work in progress, haven't hit an upper limit on velocity yet with either powder).

The nice things about the 270 are the generous case neck and the relatively uniform dimensions across rifles.
