Congrats.
I've never been disappointed with any Marlin.

OK People. Enough of this idle chit-chat.
This ain't your Grandma's sewing circle.
EVERYONE!
Back to your oars. The Captain wants to waterski.
That does look like a Marlin 336 not a Marlin 94 or 1894. The barrel also looks 'short', most are 20". There is/was a Marlin Marauder with a 16.25" barrel, straight grip, no ramp front. I've got a couple(5?) of the Marlin .35's. With a decent scope, many will short under a MOA (1") at 100 yards. There is a 'classic' boolit for these. The 200 grain Flatnose GC, Lee, RCBS, NOE and others make the mold. Diameter - .359 or .360, sometimes .361 but they shoot very well in most Marlin .35's. Can match factory jacketed for hunting deer. Lots of .38/.357 bullets for lighter, fun shooting, low noise, low recoil. Really good rifles, Hornady makes brass for them. Federal, Remington, Winchester, hornady all make 200 gr factory ammo.
MLG. You're right. I just got out and it is a 336. I hunted with a guy that had the same gun many years ago and his shot good.
Mine shoots very well with the RD 190gr.
grit yer teeth an pull the trigger
It is a 336 Marlin but not a Marauder. The front sight dovetail was behind the barrel band. I no longer have a Marlin 336 in 35cal but have the Marauder in 30-30. I had 35cal also but was in poor condition and a guy offered me a deal I couldn't refuse.
Howdy and welcome to the forum freetrapper. Nice looking carbine. I've never seen one like that. Congratulations.
Someone customized that 336 and did a nice job shortening the barrel from the looks of it. It didn't leave the factory like that. The .35/336 combo is magic IMO.

You guys are giving me lots of good information. Since I've never had a gun with a tube magazine I have a question. When I got the gun I bought some Remington coreloc 200 gr sp. They are almost flat point but still a little round. Will they be okay in the tube magazine.
Freetrapper, yessir they are fine for a tube mag. As a general rule, anything you get in 35 Remington will be safe because the majority of rifles chambered for it are tube fed. Roundnose and flatnose is safe for a tube magazine. Hornady flex tip ammo is safe too as it has a rubber tip that deforms even though it is a spitzer profile.
That Remington Core-Lokt roundnose has been around a VERY VERY long time in 30-30, 32 Special and 35 Rem for tube fed levers. AT least 50 plus years, Istarted hunting in 1963, used Core-Lokt's in a borrowed 32 Special back then. No problems in tube feeds since before WW2, I think? Probably the best factory round for the 35 Rem (200gr, NOT the pointed 150's).
Very nice.......good to see it doesn't have the silly safety!
Nice first lever action!
Marlin and the 35 remington are great choices.
I was a dog on a short chain.
Now there's no chain.

Nice rifle, I have a 1957 Marlin 336, half mag tube, in .35, super accurate and slick working. You did good on your first choice, and probably would suffice to hunt most of north American big game with that rifle inside of 200yds.
I'd like to see a close up of the front sight/ front band area if you can. It looks neat. In the "I'm an idiot" category, I once HAD a 336T .35 Rem. AND a JC Higgins m45 (336).35Rem. Sigh.

I too would like to see more pictures.
I just came into town from deer camp and got signal . I will take pics when I get back to camp and post them next time I get signal. Might be a couple days.
Something is not right about that rifle. Let me know what you would charge me to properly dispose of it for you. I’m willing to negotiate !!
