how tight does the gas check need to be?

these are powder coated and after running them thru the sizing die i noticed that a few gas checks can spin
on the back of the boolit.

do they need to be very tight?.....tight? barely held on?

if they are spinners... will the check come off during the big bang? ....in flight? or does the spinning action ad 7 extra horse power like my J.C.Whitney catalogue says?

I wouldn't be happy with that, a couple of choices, superglue does great for keeping them on. Or you can lee-ment just the gas check shank on the mold to make it a little bigger. I powder coat my 440gr Lee boolits and do not have this problem.

I have the same issue with my PC lead lee 440. Load them and shoot some, they will be fine. Something tells me when those gas checks get smacked with 50K worth of pressure forcing them into the hind end of a lead bullet they will stick just fine. If a dot of glue makes you happy then go for it.

As I see it, the gas check only needs to stay on long enough for the bullet to leave the barrel. Since the cartridge case is straight, then the gas check should stay in place when loaded too. Now after it gets hit with the propellant charge going off, it ought to stay on pretty well, as the gas pressure is going to shove it on out. It won't make any difference after the bullet takes off down range if the gas check stays on or not. Of course be extra careful loading the rounds up though. As if you have to pull the bullets, the gas checks may not come out with the bullets. That can be a real PITA.
