Son sold me his pre M10 S@W 38 special. He needed the $$ to pay for another gun. It is in prestine condition MFG. sometimes in the 30's.
now I have something to shoot the 38 special ammo I have.

He'll likely be over to borrow it next week. LOL Seriously, nice gun. I love a nice 38spl. Gp
Lets figure this out I pay him and he gets it back in a future date HUMM think he has a win win.

Freightman, it sounds like you are the trustee of said rifle, and your son is willing to wait a while before he gets it back. I am the proud dad of two boys who also like what I like and your situation sounds perfectly normal and is a fine arrangement. Good for you. I think you both have a win-win.
Mark 5:34 And He said to her (Jesus speaking), "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction."
Those pre-model number S&W K-frames are not rated for +P, so if you don't want to abuse it be careful what you shoot in it.
I don’t like + anything I am old and brittle,

Come on, pictures.

I have a 2" from 1949. I bought it from an old woman, who owned it forever. She oiled it often, and the revolver was gummed up solid. A total disassemble and cleaning fixed that.
When he brings it I will post pictures.I had planed on buying a new 38 special but rather have this old one. I do like old guns guess it reminds me of my youth. I remember dad and mom had a S@W pre 10 someone stole about 55, never found it.

I picked up a pre model 14 target masterpiece a couple of years ago. It was in good but not great condition.
Mine was made somewhere around 1950.
It shoots great. I shoot nothing heavier that standard pressure 38 special loads in it. Mostly light target loads.
I think you will enjoy your new to you handgun.
Gotta have pictures! My two 6-inch .38 Special Hand Ejectors, at left with lanyard ring made in 1941, factory refurbished and rebarreled post-war and at right plain vanilla cop gun from 1950:
