    Groo here
Up in Canada the 45-08 is used with a 200gr swc.
I would say , any boolet with a fair flat nose that feeds well will work [ depending on the target ]
I would prefer a weight that you can get 1000fps from YOUR gun.

230 gr LBT LFN. Or I would if it were legal to hunt medium game with 45 ACP here.

Ohio allows .45 ACP if the barrel length is 5" or more. The Lyman 454424 250 gr Keith is the bullet of choice in the .45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim revolvers. My 5" 625-6 Model of 1989 chronographs at 900+ fps with this bullet ahead of 7.0 grs. of Unique. That should do the job...

However, I would NOT be comfortable shooting those heavy bullets in my 1911's. I must confess that I have done so but do NOT consider that a recommendation...

I have used the 200gr SWC on rabbits, as it is a very accurate bullet and a 260gr Speer HP. Would like to try cast on a 45 Bullet on deer.

I've been using this design for some time now with good results.

I just asked NOE to consider offering a version of Lymans 452190 RFN 45 Colt bullet with a hollowpoint option. This bullet would be great in 45 ACP if we could get the weight down to around 240-245 gr, with a generous hollowpoint for low velocity use.

Shot a doe with a regular old 230gr RN Lead out of a 1911A1 in 45 ACP one time. She dropped in her tracks.

Yes I can be long winded. Yes I follow rabbit trails. Yes I admit when I am wrong. Your mileage may vary.

Keep your powder dry. Watch yer Top knot.

For JHP I like the 250gr XTP, it runs around 1200-1300 from my 5" G21 using .45 Super. For hardcast, Hunters Supply makes a 275gr hardcast that works great, run those to around 1200 fps or the 255gr WFN from Beartooth is a good choice as well.

    275gr .45 Super

I got a mold from Accurate Molds that is close to this design and it cast a very good boolit.
It is # 45-220E and it feeds better than any bullet I've shot out of my 4.25 inch 45acp.
Very accurate also.1 and a half inch at 25 yards.
The met-plat is smaller but I use my forster HP'er to make hunting boolits.

These are some of the most beautiful boolits I've seen. Excellent craftsmanship.

Dale I have been playing with my Springfield Range officer, converted to 45 super, but I loaded some cast 252.1 grain flat nose bullets with 6.5 grains of power pistol 934 Fps and bullet has a meplat of 325.5 now those are not hitting the 45 super marks I know but how well do you think those will fair on our deer here in Ohio?

    Superxmarine76;
Considering that the blackpowder .45 Colt would shoot through a horse at 100 yards, then I would suggest that your flat nose bullet, better shaped than the original .45 Colt, at similar speeds would do a fine job on deer at reasonable ranges.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

For REVOLVER use, NOT for M1911, I have had great success with these Accurate bullets in the .455 Webley, .45 Auto Rim and .45 Colt in the S&W Hand Ejector, Webley MkVI and Colt New Service:

    Attachment 217426 Attachment 217427Attachment 217428

I load 3.5 grains of Bullseye in the .455 Webley, 4.0 grains in the Auto Rim, 6 grains in the .45 Colt New Service and 7 grains in the Ruger Vaquero.

Another vote for the LBT 230gr LFN. You can pretty easily run these from 950-1000fps in the ACP with standard +P loadings. Plenty of punch for deer-size game. You can get them from MBW here: https://www.montanabulletworks.com/p...-230gr-lfn-pb/

And of course, you can get a mold straight from Veral.

Dale I agree with others here that is just really nice looking bullet and revolver. Plenty for deer within the limits of the cartridge and shooter. Nice setup ......
