Who currently manufactures rifles in 35 Whelen or 358 Winchester?

The reason I didn't include the 35 Remington in the original question is, while a great cartridge in it's own right, I wanted to have the extra power of the longer cartridges available if I ever needed it for whatever reason.
The 35 Remington pretty much reaches the basic maximum power levels of cast boolits at it normal power levels. For shooting cast, it would most likely do all I would ever need.
I like having the option of something extra available if I so choose.

The 9.3X62 and X74 are just more powerful than the 35W. Heck the 74 treads hard on a 375 H&H.

Hardly...a quick look at performance from the Nosler online data shows the Whelen and the 9.3x62 to be virtually equal.

IF you want a 35 Whelen, there are LOTS of "near new" Model 7600 rifles in .35W in the bigger gun-shows & at good prices.
(Evidently, any number of "Sunday sports" buy a .35 Whelen, discover that it DOES "kick" & then decides to sell it as "too much gun".)

My suggestion is to buy a rifle of your choice & have JES rebore it to your choice of .35 or larger bores.
(I wouldn't take love or money for my Model 760 that Jessie did for me in 9.3x62mm. = My "treasure" started out as .30-06 that had a rusted/pitted bore & for which I paid 100.oo.)

Note: After 01JAN18, I'm sending yet another Model 760 to JES to rebore. This one will be a .400 Brown-Whelen Improved.

I just got my 35 Whelen AI back (rebarrel, not a rebore), and at some point I am thinking of having a 375 Brown-Whelen done. I'll be interested in seeing your 400.

(Btw, the .400B-WI is the "ballistic twin" of the "well regarded in Africa" .404 Jeffery's dangerous game rifle, is the most powerful cartridge that can be reformed from .30-06 cases & is "enough gun" for any living creature on Planet Earth.)

Note: Being a "cast boolit" fan, my rifle will mostly be fired with a 400 grain GCCB at about 2,000FPS, which is "A KILLER" on most anything that is living in the Western Hemisphere. - I have at least 500 once-fired Lake City '06 cases to reform, that I got free & that should last me a long time.

The 400 Whelen with the correct G&H chamber is a great cartridge.
Most 400S have a 30-06 shape/shoulder which can create excessive headspace.

The book WILDCAT CARTRIDGES (Amazon) has a whole chapter on how to build a correct 400 Whelen.

Check out the photos of the .400B-WI in BIG BORE RIFLES. (I cannot get the photos to load here.) =====> Nearly 90 degree shoulder on that one & NO headspace problems either.

Both are great calibers (especially for cast bullet shooters); both are, for practical purposes, dead. Ruger No. 1 single shots surface on Gun Broker quite often. It is harder to find a nice bolt action .358 Winchester.

I like the idea of throwing 35 caliber 225 grain or larger cast lead boolits downrange. Since I am a little recoil sensitive(I can handle 30-06 easily enough), I would like to stick with non-magnum cartridges. I am thinking 35 Whelen or 358 Winchester.
I see that CVA makes a single shot in this caliber but it is an under 6lb rifle. Recoil worries again.
Does anyone currently produce either of these calibers in a good quality bolt rifle? (the Remington site says the 700 in 35 Whelen is out of production)
Would I be better served by re-barrelling a used rifle? (maybe a Savage 110 or Axis with a Boyd's stock)
If re-barrelling, what twist rate should I get?

I bought an old savage 308 110 on Gun Broker and spent the next couple years watching GB for used barrels. Now have 243 and 358 barrels for the complete package. I think I have less than $500 in the whole rig.

I'm partial to the 358, but figure that when I'm older and feebler, I will make it into a 243 in about 15 minutes.
