All the 454 brass I've ever loaded was with SRP.
Me too.

Did I ever mention that I hate to trim brass?
I could be wrong, but I believe the very early brass had large pockets. That was a long time ago.
Thanks guys , would U say what powers U were using ?? Pls I am about to load some for a good friend & don't really want to do Full power loads @ the start. Plan to tr a few cast bullets to begin with .Tks Russ..
I seem to remember reading about someone taking .460 S&W brass and cutting it down to .454 Casull length to get large primer brass.

Load #2 son's Casull with small rifle magnum primers. Stout loads but not anything screaming hot.
I use Remington 7 1/2 primers, never had a problem lighting pretty substantial loads of H110/296. If your starting with light loads you will want to steer away from these two, they really don't work very well unless you are near a max load. For lighter stuff I use Unique and 2400. Just my opinion, others will differ.

A while back, myself and some others from this forum went on a binge of enlarging the small pockets to large pockets on .454 brass. While the results were good, the amount of work and time involved was not worth it.
By the way, cast boolits and maximum loads are not mutually exclusive. I've pushed 325 grain cast boolits to 1600 fps in my Taurus RB.

Sort of off topic but I've made use of this article many times. I don't particularly like max loads in the Casull. I guess I should go further and say I don't shoot them at all any more.

I have a box of original FA brass, large primer pocket. But, I also have probably 800-1000 Freedom Arms brass with small primer and a good 600 FA factory loads left of small primer. The small primer is much more prevalent.

If you need it defined, you don't have it.
