    newby 300 whisper ???

Hey guys I looked thru the threads looking for info on loading cast in my 300 whisper. right now I'm shooting 220 smk over AA1680 doing strictly subsonic loads and was wondering anybody have any recommendations for similar type molds ( to the 220 smk) I'm sitting on about 440lbs of lead ( not much I know but it is a start) and figure it could make a good sub load , what you guys think???

I am shooting a saeco mold RG4 weight 206 GR with lube and gas check AA9 powder sub sonic 15 in SSK barrel in contender starting to shoot well. It has a fairly short throat went through a lot of different bullets and molds getting one to shoot and not having the gas check below the case neck. But like I said it is shooting good still tweaking the load might try some H110.

I think the 300 whisper has great cast boolit potential, sub and post sonic and surprised there aren't more guys shooting it here.

I for one am waiting for some additional funds to buy an upper for my AR.

    Keep posting results.. rinks:

    Here's my 300 whisper/ 300-221 Fireball

Model 1 Sales upper. I had to rework the feed ramps so they wouldn't tear up my brass. Making brass from Winchester .223. I need to lengthen the throat a smidge for the longer bullets. I too am looking at cast potential in this platform. Subsonic mostly. Mike

thats what I'm shooting a model1sales over a R/R lower , I followed some threads at quarterbore for info some people had problems with theirs, me none , I did fire lap mine with a wheeler kit(per recommedation from posters who seemed knowledgable /informative on the subject, also good performance on his M1S upper) mine shoots very nice, could not be happier with it other than price of the bulltits(220smk=$$$) thats why I was looking at casting some, if it's recommended and performance is ok

Well the price is right on them starting at $350.

I just sold my .223 upper, as I like the bolt action platform better for .223, and I have a Mini-14 that shoots pretty well- that I really like also, so I think the 300 whisper would be a perfect use of my AR.

    300/221 Cast

I just started to work with the Lyman 314299 210Gr.
Hope to do some with the 30-165 SIL group buy also.

Ive been using the $20 lee C309-200-R in my model 1 upper. Most of it has been super sonic 1700ish fps, but have used it for some sub-sonic. It shoot good, 1" @50 yards, and has a .352 b.c.
I use 18gr h116 for super, and aa2200, or data 68 for sub.

Well, honestly, I havnt shot a groop with it in sub sonic, just plate shooting. They will hit a 3" plate @ 50yd every time though. I can shoot a groop this weekend and let you know, or I can send you a hand full of them if you would like.

So far so good with the gas system. Still havnt cleaned it after 300+ rounds. You will have some soft carbon buildup.

RedneckDan is a good guy to talk to about the 300w

I would also suggest using p-mags or orlite mags with this round. Metal mags seem to scar the boolits, and sometimes jam. Map-pul no tilt followers are a plus with this round too.

    Guys,

I should have an upper together within the next month. Will be a 16+" tube with a 3 position gas block in the pistol position. Using a free floating handguard. Barrel will be threaded 5/8x24 for the obvious future use. Would be lots of fun with a suppressor ... but that's not in this year's budget

Made my first 300 pcs of brass from LC 97 5.56 (have lots more). Sized the shoulders a little forward so that I could determine the right length when the top end is complete. Brass came out nicely.

Hope to use the upper for hunting with jacketed bullets in the supersonic mode. Only 30 caliber boolits I have were made with a Lyman 311291 mold. Anyone tried that fella with the 300/221? Would love to find they'd work to play with this fella.

    Thanks!
