    Question Considerable Amount of Smoke...

I am using stick Alox and when I fire a round, there is a pretty noticeable cloud of smoke in front of the firearm--from the muzzle to about 4' out...

The cases literally drop from the chamber so I don't think I am shooting high pressure stuff--actually 30-40 Krag at about 1750 fps...

Does this smoke come from the lube burning? Should this happen?...

I have never noticed it so much as with this round...

    Thanks...BCB

not a krag, but all my tumble lube boolits smoke more than alternatives. Just one of the 'features' of alox I suppose. Probably applying the alox just a tad thick if the smoke is that bad, try thinning it down with mineral spirits.
My feedback page if you feel inclined to add:

It is smoky stuff...It works good and it keeps Mosquitoes away, but its like shooting a smoke pole..Sometimes powder makes the difference also, Temp, along with humidity.

It is typical of the lube as they said . If your bullet design has multiple lube grooves you can try using less lube and see how that works . You won't eliminate it but you only need enough lube to do the job you want .

Buy it cheap and stack it deep , you may need it !

Fergeddaboudit. Humans lived longer with smokey old guns than they have with these newfangled smokeless outfits.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

Yeah but, if your shooting multiple shots timed, smoke is your enemy. Shooting 10 shots in 10 seconds I can't afford a lot of smoke, so I worked on an old combo with my lube that won't smoke you or your neighbor out.

If I'm outside shooting slow fire chasing mosquitoes away i don't mind a little smoke with my recoil.
