    Rinse them well scrub the seal in the lid and set them in the sun for a couple of days. Nearly no effort and no real expense. The suns UV rays will kill the vinegar smell in the bucket and the lid. Too bad you are in the north, you might not have sun till August. Best wishes.

    I have pickle buckets that have smelled like pickles for years. I have used them for all sorts of stuff and never had any trouble. I would be surprised if it corroded the brass as long as you washed it with dawn (basic pH), maybe even let it sit overnight.
