    S&w da17

I am thinking of getting a S&W Mod 17 in 45ACP. Do these pistols have a particular liking for a specific cast boolit or will any 45ACP cast boolit do the job?

I don't know if it will like the same boolit as my 625 but it likes about everything from 200 - 250 gr. I shoot most of the Magma 200 SWC.

I have also used the Magma 150 SWC a bit but this is a boolit I'm struggling with. The precision of this boolit can't be compared with the 200 swc.

    1917? Army revolver from WW 1? Model 17 is a K-22 Masterpiece. 22 LR.

If it is a .45ACP you have a Model 1917 or one of the later number guns, M25, 1952 etc. The 1917 generally will shoot the same ammo as the 1911 auto with good results. I have one that is uncanny in the accuracy department with 225 TC bullets cast on the soft side and launched at 800fps.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

In my S&W .45 Hand Ejector, U.S. Army Model of 1917 I prefer the Accurate 45-240H1 flatnosed bullet with 4 grains of Bullseye. While any .45 ACP bullet will "work", the long, flat nose is more accurate than hardball and effective on game. The Saeco #954 or RCBS 45-230 CM Cowboy bullets are also good choices, as is the #452423 which Keith designed for the .45 Auto Rim.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try and track down a 452423 mould.

I have a S&W Brazilian in 45 ACP. It shoots 200 gr LSWC up to 230 gr Hardball very accurately.

I have tried 150 gr LSWC and they are good, but not as accurate as the heavier loads.

    Mine is a wonder . 5.5 Unique under a 45-200 SWC , 454423 , 454424 and a 452-255 have all shot well . It is a solid 2" @ 25 yd gun with all 4 and GI 230 ball .

Don't forget the Auto Rim brass .
