    success with the Ruger 77/357

My first texas hog, taken with my 77/357 at about 30 yards. Scope is a fixed 4X leupold.
bullet is a Hornady 180 Grain silhouette bullet on top of a stiff charge of H110, not saying so as it is not a handgun safe load.

got her just behind the ear. She was dead on her feet. the .357mag did her in well and cleanly
didnt have a scale to weigh her, any experienced hog hunters have an idea?

    hello.

Get back out there! She's probably had several litters before you shot her. Oh, I'm guessing a dressed weight of about 100lbs.

    Very good old chap!
It's a great thing when you roll your own ammo and harvest fresh meat with it!!!

Good job. The only good feral pig is one like yours-dead! I'm guessing 150# before you let the air out.... Best, Thomas.

    Congrats Andrew!

My son, stationed in Georgia is having a ball shooting feral hogs down there. His Christmas dinner was hog done in a Dutch oven. I once shot a Russian Boar in Australia as it charged me. That was a hoot... once he was down.

WOW Andrew! Great going and good photograph.

Makes me even more want to get my 77/44 bloodied.

Have been testing a 275gr Wide Flat Nose, cast from an Accurate Molds mold.

I keep hoping for a bit better accuracy, but it is a 100yds deer gun as it is.

Wish I was able to visit a hog rich area, bring along my 45/70 and the 77/44!

    Thanks for the post!!!!!!!!!!

    Andrew,

Have you put in an aftermarket shear kit?

Made an awesome difference on my 77/44. I also shimmed the bolt.

In fact, the kit made the trigger so light I put the factory spring back in with the new trigger shear. Now, the trigger is not only VERY GOOD, but not so light it slips up on me.

Kinda makes me wonder if Ruger will pick up making these rifles again after it has made a `Zillion` clones of the M 16 not knowing who would be elected?Robert

I doubt if Ruger will bring these back as they used to cost about $660 retail and the American Ranch Rifle is a better product at a much lower price retail. I share the desire for a 357 or 44 bolt action carbine so I feel your pain.

I bought a stainless one for a truck gun to shoot pigs on the 100,000 acres we manage, but have yet to find a load it cares for though it will shoot factory 140ftxs pretty good, but cant keep up with my 3 marlin 1894's. I noticed it does have a long throat though n have some 180gr sspb loaded out longer though they want feed through mag just to test n see what they will do if it will quit raining. It seems to shoot better off a loaded bipod than off the bench though.

Wish we had pigs to shoot. Looks like fun and a good extension of the season. Funny how the pistol calibers seem to only be popular in lever actions. Remington had the 788 in 44 mag, your Ruger and Savage at one time made a bolt in 32-20 and 25-20. None seemed to take off.

Careful what you wish for. They will destroy habitat of local species.

I really wanted one but they seemed expensive.....which I could have rationalized....but too many reports of mediocre accuracy.
