I live in California unfortunately, we have been pushed to use nonlead ammo throughout the state even in areas there aren't condors.
I recently got into casting with bismuth and have got my bullets approved for use in California to hunt with.
So yesterday I went out and did some testing of my 44 mag handgun ammo, it's the Lyman devastator hollowpoint mold, bullets are sized to .230, and gas checked not lubed and weigh 236 grains, I'm not sure how fast they are traveling I'm using the same load as I use for this bullet in lead.
Anyways decided to go up in the snow and try a coyote hunt to see how they perform on game, no coyote showed but a nice sized female bobcat did and since I happen to have a tag decided it will be the test subject.
The round hit her quartering to me at 30 yard's she dropped in her tracks, I saw a bit of fur fly and snow behind her. The exit was pretty small about 44 cal exit, my gas check was just under the skin at the exit. By the looks of it the bullet came apart and not much of it actually passed through. Great for small game, probably should run a solid for deer and bear though. Bismuth I'm using is roto metals lead free mix 88% to 12% tin. This is my first lead free kill I'm happy how it performed kinda like a v- max.
