    Lee Auto-Indexing Turret Press?

    Hello,

I started loading years back with a Lyman Turret Press. I used this for rifle and pistol, and eventually busted the center bolt.

At the time, I was loading mostly rifle and so bought a Rockchucker to replace it. I've been very happy with it.

Lately, I've been loading a lot of .45acp. I don't have the time I used to have, and churning out 50 rounds per hour isn't keeping up with what I shoot.

I'm therefore thinking about an auto-indexing turret press. It will handle bulk pistol only; all rifle and precision pistol will still be loaded on the Rockchucker.

Sizing and priming will be done off the press. Belling, powder charging, bullet seating and crimping will be done in the turret press.

How do you folks like your Lee turret presses, and will they hold up to light duty use?

    Thank you,

    Josh

I love mine I prime off the press and it eliminates a lot of grief. My Pro 1000 isn't getting sold because of priming off press also. My turret I size, then flare/charge then seat the boolit and crimp on station 4. For the money I don't think you can go wrong.

Love my Lee Classic Turret . I also prime off the press. I use the Auto-Drum powder Measure, and can load primed brass quite fast.

I use a Lee classic cast turret press and load 9mm, 38 special, 357 mag, 223, 243, 308, and 30-06 on it. I perform all operations except primer pocket swaging for military brass on this press.
I like that it takes only a few seconds to change calibers.
I usually load between 150 to 200 rounds an hour of the pistol ammunition.
I have loaded tens of thousands of rounds on this press since I purchased it.
I would recommend this press to anyone.

My pro 1000 works great once you get everything adjusted. I've only loaded 500 380 and around 75 35 rem so far.

Ditto, ditto and ditto. Except, I have never loaded any rifle cartridges on my Classic Turret. Priming on the press is an extra added attraction for me. I rarely have had a priming problem.

works great for me! I'd get the 'classic cast' version and the auto eject kit if I were you.

Love mine. Load 380, 38, 45, 243 and 3006. I got the reverse rotation/auto eject from hardline for the pistol stuff and it works like a charm and eliminates the loaded round off to empty shell on shuffle. Rifles I take the index rod out and use as a manual index.

I' sure the other companies make good products however as far as turret presses go Lee Classic Cast Turret has options far and above any of the others with out going to a full progressive. I love my Lee turret press, mine has worked very well for several years and I would not consider getting any other press.

I have used my Lee turret for a several thousands of rounds and I really like it. I disabled the auto index 4 days after I got mine and prefer it that way.

I don't think a Lee in auto indexing would be much, if any faster than your Lyman turret. You are only going to do 3 operations on the turret and hand indexing the Lyman won't be appreciably slower than auto indexing, IMO...

OP, why didn't you buy another center bolt from Lyman? That seems a lot cheaper than buying a new press just because one part was busted.

Was it NLA? I remember reading 5 years ago in another forum some guy had a Lyman turret and broke that bolt and after much grief with Lyman, he finally figured out they didn't make that part anymore.

I like my Lee Turret, extra turrets are around $10, so you can install adjusted dies in them and leave them that way; 10 second caliber changes!

This is my experienxe as well except I don't load 243 or 30-06 but do load 32acp, 380acp, 44mag, and 45LC.

I've used a Lee turret for reloading .44-40 and .357/.38 with no issues, works well.

I do it all on my Classic Turret. Yes, I drop a primer or 3 per 100, BFD. Pick them up and keep on truckin'.
I like also that caliber changes take all of a minute or less. Just pop on the new turret head with the dies already
    set and it's GTG.

Best value for the money out of any press on the market. It's extremely versatile and can load pretty much anything. But I'm a bit biased.

I have a lee 4 hole turret press. Love it. I removed the index rod from mine because I simply like single stage, but they work fine, at a great price. Tool heads are decently cheap 12-15$ each.

I love my classic cast 4 hole turret and after cleaning up some small flashing overflows from the mold injection process, the primer arm works good. It seems a bit flimmsy but has been dependable. Anyone not wanting their primer system can give it to me - I'll pay shipping.

I have two higher end progressive presses as well as a "pro"1000 and bought the classic turret for limited use. My first impression of the priming arrangement was seriously skeptical. I have found that the priming arrangement actually works. I have also found myself loading quite a lot more ammo on this press than I ever thought I would. It really isn't a toy. I am completely satisfied.
