Picked up a Ruger American Ranch in 300 BLK a few months ago. Been experimenting with both cast and j-word loads for different hunting scenarios.
Played hooky today and worked up a deer hunting load with Hornady's Varmint 110gr spire point and WC820. Couldn't find much info on the web for this combo, so I worked up slowly and settled on the following:
17.3 grains WC820 (lot 47323)
2.030" OAL
Light crimp with Lee FCD
Winchester small rifle primer
This should be treated as a max load. Shorter OAL or more powder resulted in flattened primers.
Average velocity is just a shade under 2300fps and very consistent. Groups nicely.
H110 delivers better performance for this bullet (by about 75fps), but if you happen to have WC820 lot 47323, this is a perfectly good use for the powder.
