So I ended up buying a big lot of stuff from an auction house that was selling off a closed pawn shop's inventory. There was a big box of 22lr that included a lot of charges for a power hammer and these. Are these 22lr blanks or charges for a powder actuated hammer? They fit in a 22lr chamber easily. I'd actually use them if they are blanks to help train our horses.

I am pretty sure those are shot shells.

One way to be sure is shoot one at a piece of cardboard, with a safe backstop.

Rat Shot / Bird Shot ..... #11 or 12 shot
I've probably shot a thousand of them.
Interestingly, they pattern better from a handgun than they do a rifle.
Remington used to make a smoothbore pump for them.

Yep, everyone is correct. Shot a bunch of those at vermin and other stuff in my youth.

I don't think you want to use them for horse training. Can you still buy these or are we relegated to use the shot capsules? I shot a bunch of these as a kid. I always thought that they were designed for shooting inside buildings.

My dad and uncle used those by the case shooting rats in granpas barn and corn crib. You would be shooting at about 6 ft so they worked good and no holes in the barn. They also used some in a rifle to shoot pedgions out of the rafters in the barn.
