Best color for "Shake N bake?

Dear Friends,, I thought I was ready to buy some powder from "Smoke" but I want to make sure I get a color that works good with the shake N Bake method.. I guess the "color" really does not matter that much, I just want good coverage in one coat. Ideas? I kinda like blue and/or zombie green,, even pink.

I don't want to buy an "electro-static machine,, got to draw that money saving line somewhere!! Thanks,, Jon

I have found the hf red works well enough for shake and bake and anything smoke sells as good for shake and bake works well too.

Any of smokes powders are tested to work with shake and bake. I have personally had good results with his pink, orange, black and clear. Oddly, clear seems to be the easiest to use and since it goes on white is easy to judge coverage.

I know the lighter colors aren't as opaque as the darker ones. They still do the job but you might have a thin spot of color--protection will be there though.

I'm finding I like to mix colors as I get bored with solid looking bullets. Smoke's purple and gloss back make a great dark cherry color, his orange-brown and yellow green give me a color that can look like camouflage--either brown or green depending how much you put in the mix.

Gloss black added to almost any color will lower the brightness (correct name is shade) which I like pretty much across the board.

and if you make a truly ugly color it will still protect the bullet as it goes out the barrel and you'll eventually use it all up.

Never ever ever had a bad experience w hf red. That powder is nearly beginner proof for tumble style coating. Found out that one good coat properly applied is enough for shooting 9mm which in my opinion is the proving ground for bullet quality

The diff between smoke's powder & HF is night & day. I can get great coverage with smoke's in 45sec of shaking. The HF can take 2-3m if there is any humidity. The cost isn't a lot more.

Clear is easiest for me. If you are one of those color freaks, grin, then I get good results with Smoke's Signal Blue but others really seem to like Carolina Blue.

If you live in the desert the Harbor Freight apparently works. I live on the Gulf Coast and HF works only if I double coat, so that little savings on the cost of the powder is not worth it to me.

First starting out, go with a high gloss Blue or Black as they seem to always work. I recommend you go with what works, otherwise a first time bad experience and you decide it's not worth it and miss out on a fantastic process.

I've tried 3 of the colors from smoke so far (got 2 sample packs) and hf red. All did a decent job of dry tumble for me. Magenta, pink, signal blue, and red.

Carolina Blue has the best coverage (for one coat) IMO. Purple is a close 2nd, closely followed by traffic blue and pink.

Alright Fcvan, I ordered Prismatic Ink Black, Black Jack, and Tecate Green. I've used some of their discontinued powders before with good results except for one. Can't remember the name but it was a bronze-ish color. When I went out to chrono some test loads under bright sunny California desert skies (this past June), the chrono couldn't read my shots. So, I broke out the black Sharpie marker and covered each boolit in black. Low and behold, the chrono read every shot after that! My hope is that with black PC colors, my chrono will be able to read them without marker-ing them. That was a painful learning experience, getting baked & dehydrated while trying to figure out why nothing was working.
