Blue Dot 12ga Sabot Slug Load

Trying to load some Lyman Sabot Slugs with Blue Dot and Roll Crimp. The wad called for in the Lyman manual is to short for a good roll crimp so I replaced it with an eight petal Wind Jammer wad because the legs are longer. Reduced the power charge from 44gr of Blue Dot to 40gr. In a Fiocchi plastic high base hull. Roll crimped to a length 2.5" with a plastic over-shot disc over the slug. Makes a good looking shell.

Does anyone have any experience with this load or one like it?

watch the roll crimp on the laymans, the book shows fold crimp only. you might get a presure spike so start with a minimum charge. I've done unique and red dot roll crimp with the layman but only with the light end of the load table and they seemed to be a pretty good punch so never went to a higher load. longshot would give you close to the same as blue dot but would not be as much volume so you could fit everything in the hull.

Prolly rip the petals off on ignition as they are not as tough as the hull.

My experience is with all other factors being equal, a fold crimp will generate more pressure (velocity) than a roll crimp.
