    babbit material

    found a bar of babbit called genuineA, found out its 84%lead 10% tin 6%antimony How would you mix this with plumbers lead to make bullet alloy

    would be shootin this in a 357mag, 158gr GC in front of 15.0grs of 2400 in the 1300fps range , also 44mag 215gr GC in front of 20 grs 2400 havent cronyed this load yet

    Well I don't know that the #'s are proper for babbit . But if correct 2 to 1 would make a good bullet , plenty hard enough for your use. Good luck & Good shootin James

    Agree. That is one babbit to two lead pipes, which cuts the tin & antimony down to 1/3 in the total mix. However, at those velocities you might get leading, actually in this situation, tinning. If this in reality occurs, then you must add more antimony to compensate for too much tin. This would require cutting the mix again by 33-50 percent with wheel weights, which has much more antimony than tin. ... felix

    this alloy does seem very hard, harder than lino think that the #'s are different?If so what would you feel that this alloy was , found those #'s on the net when looking up the manufacture of this barHoyt GununieA is on the bar

    WOW! I have 3 or 4 babbit hammers I use. Never thought about melting them but being in the machining industry I use them to much to melt down.
