I play keyboard in our church band and we play mainly New Christian Music at our contemporary services. But I still like the oldies better!

All good picks young lady. There are quite a few good artists out there now. Just missed a chance to see Crowder and was bummed about that.

If it was written before 1899, I don't want any part of it.

    I especially dislike the modern 7 - 11 songs

Couldn't help but laugh at williamwaco's post, because I'm pretty much the same way. But that's just me, and a matter of taste, really, and not of fact. Music will always be a matter of taste, just like food. And both the foods we like and the music we like are mostly acquired tastes, and what we start out in life with tends to be what we like most. So us older geezers tend to just simply like what we were brought up with. But it's good to see the newer generations making a "joyful noise" in a way that they like. I've bot to admit, I love a good rock n' roll beat, or dem ol' blues.

So love what you like. All I think God cares about is that we DO it, and he's not particularly partial to any form, so long as it's earnest and honest. If I were younger, I'd probably be listening to it, too, right along with you. Sad fact is, I listen to talk radio when I'm out and about in my truck, and I miss the music I love so much. I just feel so much more of a need to be informed now, rather than just entertained, that I've practically stopped listening to much of any kind of music these days. And I DO miss it, too!

Prairie girl, Thank you so much. I find myself being a bit of curmudgeon, like some of the above, and then something just moves me, so I guess, I can like anything that "raises a joyful noise".

Are my kids/grandkids more important than "o"'s kids, to me they are, darn tooting they are!!! They deserve the same armed protection afforded "o"'s kids.

I should elaborate on my post # 8, many will disagree with me, some are even members of my family, but I believe in Reverence when I enter the Sanctuary of our Lord.

    But thats just me.

I like the old ones , I'm old and lazy . I already know the words to all of them . The young folks are due their own praise music just like we old ones were in my opinion . In the process I have learned to enjoy much of the new .If it helps young folks in their faith I'm all for it .

The problem with a lot of the new music is that it can not be sung by a congregation. It is performance "art" and meant to be sung by artist with much greater talent than the average church goer. I have always judged what I sing by the words and then the music. I find a lot of new and old wanting in that respect. I do become angry when I am asked to sing the unsingable and the words to the new songs are plagarized from a great hymn of the faith. Let the old and the new stand on their own and don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I'll be 100% honest here....... I like it all! If it brings glory to God and speaks of His power and grace I am for it. I have a very old hymn book here at the house that brings tears to my eyes with the power of the hymns contained within it. I like the modern Christian music, the hardcore like I posted above, old gospel, Johnny Cash/Elvis gospel, alternative, and even some Christian rap. If it speaks of His redemption and glory and reaches out to that one stumbling lost soul because of the genre of Music it is, I say Praise God and worship at full volume if need be.

I know that the older folks like the older music (I don't blame you; I do too). My dad is in the group of the older folks and enjoys the older hymns but also like the newer ones too. My church sings both the new and older hymns, so the older ones get to sing the songs that they like and the younger ones the ones that they like. I like the modern and older hymn equally. If the modern hymns help the younger people to praise God, I think it is a wonderful thing. Hope ya'll enjoyed the music and thank you for replying.

^^^ Liked all the links you posted. My all time favorite. Your Newsboys did a cover, but nothing as good as the original:
