    What Color???

I just stole an RCBS Rock Chucker. It's in perfect condition mechanically but needed cleaning up and the faded paint redone. I'm sure someone on the forum has cleaned up a Rock Chucker before, so what color paint did you end up using to match the original?

Dat wouldn't be any fun. I want to get it fixed up like new so when the cops get here it won't look like the picture the previous owner gave them.............okay?

Take a painted piece to any good auto paint store and they will laser color match it to a "T". I have done that on several tools with custom manufacturer paints and the match was perfect. Similar to what Home Despot and Lowe's does with latex house paint, these auto stores have machines that use concentrated pigment containers that mix your paint exactly to the computer scan.

Not cheap, but a perfect match!

The place I use puts it in a spay can if you want that way. I spray it myself with my spray guns.

Or you can get one of those u-fill-it spray cans like HF sold. Use your air pressure and your paint to fill it.

You might luck out and find a sorta close spray paint at one of those auto stores. Mine has over a hundred different colors. And not the carp that big boxes or Walmart sells (Krylon/Rustoleum)! Don't know how close you are to a big metro area (you have left off your location info!), but that is where you will find stores like I use all the time. Remote stores in the backwoods will not carry that wide variety of pre=packaged spray paints.

Now that you made that known, I would suggest going to one of your close main towns, getting a match, and buying either a quart of the paint or having them put it in an aresol can for you. Or spray it yourself. Even a cheap-o airbrush from HF will do the job with auto enamel.

    good luck.

As to color, you should select something that is an extension of your personality ... hopefully not pink.

I'm a retired custom furniture builder, so maybe I could paint it to look like Curly Maple.

I'd 'camouflage' it…that way when the Cops get there they won't see it!

Just paint it up in a my little pony scheme. You'll either get horrified responses or just laughter. It would truly be a one off.

my little pony is alright but if you want laughs Hello Kitty is where it's at.

I don't know which press you have but the older darker ones used a crinkle color paint on them.
I have seen [remember] some paints used to come in spray cans that would duplicate that color almost perfectly.

the other lighter green ones was a powder coat of sorts only it was a bit more brittle and flaked off if you hit it with something sharp.

I wouldn't get too wrapped up in exact color matching I'd just pick something I liked and make sure it was a quality paint job.
put the time into the prep work and get the base down to metal and start over.

you have to look at the thing every time you use it.

I've torn down my reloading room for a pending move but here's a vise I painted next to a LAM II using that hammered green.

There's Amazon if you cant find it locally.

Thanks for the picture. Now I know that's the color I want. Yes, I know it's available from Amazon. $8.50 in the retail stores. $15.66 plus shipping at Amazon............and that's one of the least expensive I found there. I'll get on the phone tomorrow and call every place I can think of that carries Rustoleum paints.

Didn't go all the way bare. Just a quick scrape to get the loose peeling, primed then 2 coats.
