new wheel gun?

i have a ruger super redhawk with a 7.5" barrel in 44 rem mag. it is a great gun, but its getting to be a little too much for what i(had a stroke, so i'm one handed) need. its getting hard to hold the ruger up, so i use a tripod. at 25 yards it get roughly 3 1/2 - 4" groups(5 shots) with 230gr wc and trail boss. i plan on using the ruger up to 50 yards, tho it will most likely shot a deer at 20-30 yards.

i have been thinking on getting a 44 special with a 4 5/8" barrel in either the ruger blackhawk or the charter arms .44sp target bulldog. i do have some 250gr miheck hp(1 in 40) along with the 230gr wc. unique will be used for hunting deer.

so should i go and buy the 44 sp or do i stay with the super redhawk?

I cut my super Blackhawk barrel back to 4 5/8 remounted the sight shot 44 special loads like the frame and grip better

absolutely am in love with that handgun
it will handle my hunting needs from small to big game
in my hunting fields
it is built on the smaller frame blackhawk so it may be perfect for you
as well

At the ranges your most likely going to be shooting deer either the 5 1/2 or 4 5/8 New Model Flattop Ruger. Both are well balanced and Ruger seems to be doing a great job at putting those together.

I've got the charter bulldog and have had blackhawks. For what you want, i'd get the blackhawk in 44 special. I love my bulldog, but the fixed sights and short barrel don't make a hunting gun.

thanks everybody!!! i'm almost sure that it will be a blackhawk(90%+). has anybody used a charter arms 44 special with a 4.2" barrel?(the other 10%)

I'd try the lighter loads in what you have first.
sometimes a heavier gun sitting on something is easier to steady and doesn't move as much when the trigger is pulled.

SRH is a great gun and can do 1/2" at 50 yards. I know they are heavy and with shoulder problems I understand.
A nice .44 SP will do you too. I would stay with a Ruger either way. A nice Flat Top SA!

I used the Charter with a 3" or so, it was extremely light. Light enough that it recoiled much more than expected. I don't remember how it was to shoot. You might consider something with a bit more weight? Or maybe that is a good thing? They don't take hot loads at all, the cylinder walls are paper thin.

The Ruger 44 special is about as good as a handgun gets...loves 250gr bullets and Unigue.

That gun was truly a classic the day the first one left the factory.

A couple years ago, I had my 9.5 inch Super Redhawk 480 chopped and ported by Cylinder & Slide. It now has a 6 inch barrel, which really breathes new life into it. The difference in the way it now balances and points is pretty remarkable.

Get the Blackhawk, can't beat a SA revolver for one handed shooting. Now loading with one hand will take some time.

i went yesterday to look for a 44 sp and didn't find it. but i did put my hands on a 45 colt ruger new model bisley blackhawk with a 4 5/8" barrel. i didn't buy it, but it sure felt good in my hand. its balance was good and it the sights "might" need changed, but thats about all.

now i am hooked, i have a few more gun stores that i can look at, but its the blackhawk in 44 special for me!!!

I have been watching them for some time, the price keeps creeping up. Don't wait too long they are getting close to 5 bills, or more. A couple years ago I could have got one for around 450.

well today i ordered from my local gun shop a 44 mag in ruger super blackhawk with a 4 5/8" stainless barrel with wooden grips. i did trade my ruger super redhawk to buy it. now i have to wait a couple of weeks to get sbh. tomorrow i have to get 44 sp from starline and a holster(cheap one).
i was going to get a 44 sp in ruger blackhawk bisley, but i figured since its goin last me until i take a dirt nap, my son likes the 44 mag so now he can use it.

i'll take a few pictures when i get it....
