I picked up a Lyman 457193 (405 FPPB) mold for my Christmas present to myself...
cast about 100 of those and made some darr lube for them.. Took a lee 457 bullet sizing die and opened it up to .459 and sized my bullets to .459.

loaded a few of my custom cast boolits with 25 gr 2400, Dacron and produced less than 1" at 50yds.... Those boolits shoot better than the one that I ordered..BFR loves them...

I have to try it with the little powder I have left. I should have a Lee 405 around here. I gave my friend my Lyman for his rifle since it could barely make .457".
I also have many BPCR molds I made to try.

Cast up 150 boolits this morning. These are gas check so I can shoot them in my 458 SOCOM but I bet they will shoot very well at Springfield velocities in my Encore rifle. I also have a 457 GNR that shoots the same bullet in a 16" Encore barrle with a muzzle brake.

Hopefully it shoots as good as it looks. If I had the BFR in 45-70 I would hope this one would shoot well. Thinking velocity around 1200-1400 FPS from my rifle. So 1000 from the handgun would be good out to 100 yards or so.

well loaded 25.0 grains of AA5744 with a CCI Lrg rifle primer. Averaged 1300 FPS with Std dev of 3FPS 2.5" group with open sights standing shooting freehand. This is 26" Barrel. Wow is that thumper of a bullet.

AA 5744 didn't work in the BFR at all, dirty and not accurate at all.

Yea it works better with heavy bullets still leaves some kernels but in the rifle with heavy bullets it seems to work much better accurate and consistent. Tomorrow I am going to try Unique and try and get the velocity to 1100-1150.

12.8 grains of Unique with some pillow ticking. Chronographed from my rifle at 1080 FPS very consistent Std dev of 11. and very accurate. I did not bench it but grouped well off hand with open sights.

I've went at high as 16.0gr of unique with a 405gr boolit with good results. I'm getting 1150fps out of the BFR and 1350fps out of the marlin both were producing 1-2" groups @50yds.

My manual shows a 420gr cast boolit with 16.5gr of unique at 38,200 C.U.P.

I plan on loading some 405gr loads with my Lyman 457193 (405gr) boolits just to shoot for fun. I'm pretty set on the 405gr with 2400 load for deer hunting.

So I loaded some light loads with the Lyman 457193 mould 405 gr and 16.0 gr unique today and had horrible results.. Boolits were keyhole'n all over the place. I've had good results with other 405gr with the same load but these didn't work.any ideas???

i loaded some of the Lyman's 405 with 2400 and 3031 with excellent result so could it be the speed?

Is that a nose ride maybe not enough engagment with the rifling or just stripping the rifling. In any case you are not spinning it enough so it is unstable. heck I ran that 455 grain under 900 FPS and it stabilized fine out to 75 yards.

Its really strange.. I used the same bullet with the 2400 and 3031 loads and it shot really good and produced about 1-2" at 50yds... I even took that unique load and shot it out of my Marlin and it still was all over the place... gonna load some more test rounds with 2400 and give it a shot again... they are clocking at about 1250fps on average..

what are your bullets from that mold sizing at out of the mold? My bfr doesn't like anything under .459
