    Why Full Grown Men Cry

Some days things just do not work out.
Of late I have been trying to come up with an alternative toAlliant 2400, as it is next to impossible to get or the LGS wants some crazyprice for it.
No pun intended, I set my sights on IMR 4198 and Reloader 7,as of right now I haven’t got any H4198.
Before I forget the guns I am partial to are the 1903 and1903A3’s in the wildly exotic 30-06 Springfield calibre (European spelling).
I shoot mainly @ 100 yds, with the occasional 200 thrown in.
The gun of choice today was a full military dress, RockIsland, 1920ish vintage with a mint four groove HS ’44 barrel.
The gun was tapped for a scope when I got it so I but on aspare Refield 6.5-20x, fine cross hair with target dot scope.
Two of the boolits I tried today were NOE’s 315 and the Lee155 2r.
I use the 315 as a control as it ALWAYS shoots good (as youcan see).
This game is shot mostly in the head, yes it is a head game.
IF that fourth round had not gone out on target #1 !
    And then downhill from there.
Oh well there is always tomorrow.
P.S. All boolits were sized .311, lubed with Ben’s Red andLightly rolled in Ben’s Liquid Lube

I would be thrilled with any of those groups on any day from one of my rifles. Are you crying tears of joy? I would be...

Don't get me wrong, any day at the range is GOOD !

Just once I would like it to all come together.

Those groups say something about the equipment , don't they !

If you combine the groups on target #1 and #4, you still have a pretty decent ten shot group. Otherwise, unless the rifle shoots like #1 all the time, the planets aligned just right for shots 1-3 and 5, with shot 4 still in the normal group.

Looks great to me. Getting MOA, you are there. You may want to try some IMR 4227. It's a ball powder like 2400. I haven't seen 2400 for sale in over three years.

Mine is a scoped Remington 03A4 with a 4 groove military barrel that has never seen a jacketed boolit. Years of testing and firing many groups until I got this 10 shot about this time last year. My load is a Lyman 311284 sized to .310 and using equiv to 3031 (but a local powder) 32gns for 1780fps.

I cried because I got 2 x sub MOA 10 shot groups on the same day

    OK ....I am happy now.

Although I shot another one of my four in one out groups , the other load I tried shot to the same place!

Yes a six round group, that is all I could manage in the cold.

Now I have five rounds I don't know what to do with.

OH YA ....No whining....Click image for larger version.

If you can find any Alliant 300MP try it. I have shot this in the Mosin Nagants and got moa groups at 100 yards. A little slower than 296/110. SR4759 is discontinued but if you find some it is a very good powder and is what I use most of the time.
Alliant 300MP also shot fantastic in my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 41 mag.

I am going to have to look for a powder distributor in WA. I have not seen 2400 anywhere in quite some time and I sure would like to get some.
