I have a partial box of Lyman 45 caliber brass gas checks. This is the black and white striped Lyman box. Any idea when these were discontinued? I see that Lyman now makes gilding metal (copper) checks.

many of the older checks were brass. problem was most were in a card box and would tarnish
I have couple tins of 35cal hornady that are brass and being in the tin can are bright like any new cases
My supply of 7mm gas checks are the old Lyman brass ones and they have always crimped, sized and shot fine. Haven't noticed any difference in handling and performance from copper ones used for other calibres.
Think Lyman dropped them because they weren't cost effective anymore, pure and simple economics. Too many people went for "J"'s and reloaders weren't buying enough for them to keep the checks in their offerings.

I use them when I can get them. Never a problem with them. If I'm lucky I pick them up on ebay for cheap.
I picked up a partial box (.30 cal) at a gun show a couple of years ago. They were brass and packaged in the black/white striped box. I've used them on boolits for the .30 carbine and they worked just fine. There's was no difference in performance from my normal Hornady checks.
