I have to admit I really like the new 2015 Ruger #1 medium sporter 24" barrel in .30/06
If my dealer has one when I visit next week I will probably buy it, if the wood is nice.
That is the problem with ordering one sight unseen.
He had a #1 light sporter in .30/06 a while back with the best wood I have ever seen on a #1.
Only problem is I really don't care for the light sporters.
To me the barrel is too light.
My favorite #1 is the Tropical..
If he has tropical .375 H&H..well I may be ruined..

rockrat your pm box is full.
There is no problem so great, that it cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives.

    I had a Ruger #1 .375 H&H at one time.
It was a bell ringer as far as recoil. The Winchester Model 70 Safari grade will handle recoil much better.
It would take balls or iron to shoot a Ruger #1 Tropical in .458 win
I like the .458 but I am NOT lining up for that one,
To me the .405 win is perfect in the Tropical..
Maybe I just better stay away from my dealer..

I need another .375 H&H like I need a hole in my head..

I was in Cabelas Gun Library a while back ,and they had a special edition
Ruger #1 in .250 Savage..It may have been the best looking #1 I have ever seen. They only wanted $1600..

Perhaps I need a .30/06 like I need a hole in my head, but if he has one I may buy it.

I am currently shooting the .405 win with a 330 gr bullet at about 2000 fps.
It is perfect as far as recoil..No leading , but I have not pushed it any further.

The .405 win is my favorite round for cast bullets.

The .270 is the one my friend.
If I get to go west hunting again it will be for antelope.
I like the hunt because it is cheap, and I like long range shooting..
I give the meat to the locals, but I love the hunt.

.270 my friend is the one most forgot! If they could only see the kills it has brought in it's lifetime! It was and still is a great caliber!

I was enamored with Jack O'Conner growing up.I started using the .270 in 86 .
I have made some amazing shots and kills with that caliber..
I have killed most of my game with it and the .45/70

The 270 is also a classic, but I've always favored the 30-06 because it can also be fed to the Garand. I've never seen one but I bet a 270 m1 would be one sweet shooter.

When I had a #1 in .375 H&H we always shot (J bullets) and maximum speeds. With that the recoil was substantial. If I had one now I would load it down and use cast bullets..

i've killed alot of deer with the #1 in 270win. i made very good shots out of this one. the best shot was a 8pointer at a whopping 10'(its the avatar) and the second best was a doe at 375+/- yards.

i was around 14 years old when i seen my first #1. i met a guy finishing dressing out a deer. we talked some and he showed me what got the 6point, a ruger #1 in 7x57!!! i fell in love with it!!! i'm still trying to find one...and a 257 bob!!!

I got lucky on the Number One's. I am totally convinced each #1 is a law unto itself. My current project is to get the #1A 30-06 running with cast bullets. Next will be the 257 Roberts. The Rhinos and the like are no longer a problem in Tennessee so the 375, for now, is a safe queen. Once I had a Browning single shot in 25-06. Don't think I'll get another. My #1A is an outstanding looking rifle. It's a shame that the #1's are going extinct.

My favorite #1 is the .405 win..I would have bought two if I had known they would only make it a couple of years..
I have a 400 gr Accurate mold for the rifle. I have not tested it yet..
I doubt they will make the .405 again, but if they do, I will buy another ..
My rifle slugs .412 and the rifling is somewhat shallow. The .414 bullets work perfect.
I use the Hornady .416 gas checks..
I would say it is my favorite smokeless rifle with cast bullets..

I will try to get a .30/06 Medium sporter, if I don't have to special order it..
I would rather have the same rifle in .308 win ,but I am pretty sure they won't make that..

Now that I'm in my 60's, I don't think I'll be headed back to Africa. I put together a .458 WM Ruger #1 and rechambered it to .458 Lott for "the next dream hunt". Added a soft recoil pad, mercury recoil dampener, and a set of peep sights that fit the Ruger scope grooves on the receiver. Took a monster recoil machine and turned it into a recoil ***** cat. Instead of using it for what it's designed to be, I have made it into my fancy .45-70 equivalent with reduced loadings. Much like the OP, I'm starting to lust for a #1 in .30-06. Maybe I can trade this into one.

The Mercury suppressors are great. I did the same thing with two Model 70's in .458 win and .416 Rem.
    I have a Browning A Bolt in .375 H&H.. I added a Mercury suppressor..It brought the rifle up to 9lbs.
The recoil is now about like an 06 .
It is a deadly accurate rifle, and one I will take to Alaska ,if I ever get to go..

If I buy another .375 H&H ,it will be a Winchester Model 70 Safari Grade.
Those are the rifles I prefer..

That sounds like a fun chambering, Especially for shooting boolits.

I wish they would chamber for more of the old cartridges..I would like to have a #1 in .30/40 Krag..

I guess the #1 is not a big seller or they wouldn't have phased production back..
