For a concealed gun, I've carried a little bit of everything over the years; too many to list. Always came back to the snubnose 38 Special. I finally settled on the hammerless, airweight, snubnose J-frame a long time ago and never looked back. It's a bit old school but it fills the requirements of a CCW well.
I like the Kahr design and if I were to go with a pistol over a revolver I would give the Kahr strong consideration (I had a couple and really liked them). Flat, simple, reliable. Kind of like a thin single stack Glock.
It's a little expensive and a bit exotic but the H&K P7 has a lot going for it. Very accurate, very slim, compact, safe and reliable. It would need to be finished in something a little tougher than bluing; maybe Robar NP3 ?
The P7M8 has a magazine release behind the trigger guard but for a dedicated CCW I would actually prefer a P7 or PSP with the heel magazine release, less chance of a mag becoming dislodged. It is far better to have one loaded magazine locked in the gun than to have the ability to rapidly change magazines. Not that mag changes are all that important in most real world encounters, but a heel type mag release can actually be operated rather efficiently with practice.
I really hope Remington can work the bugs out of the new R51. The concept is very promising. Rounded contours, light weight frame, compact design, cool operating system and a passive safety. I don't know if it will ever pan out but it's one of the more interesting designs to come along in a while. And yes, I did carry an old Remington model 51 for awhile .
Things I DON'T need in a carry gun: Hammer spurs, manual safeties, high magazine capacity, fat grips, adjustable sights and sharp edges.
Things I LIKE in a carry gun: Lightweight, rust resistant materials and finishes, simple operation, absolute reliability and compact design.
Colt 1903 Hammerless, .32 ACP! Fits nicely and comfortably in any pocket.

I had a Colt 1903 in 32 and a 1908 in 380, good pistols !
Smith and Wesson model 36, 642, or 380 Sigma

1911, or a S&W Shield, or a S&W 640. Depends on my clothing or mood.
Ruger LC9, with a Sig P238 being added at some point in the near future. Out and about in the woods is a RIA 1911.
Mostly an M&P 9C and for lighter wear, M&P Bodyguard 380 non-laser. The 9C is full of Fed 124gr. HST's and the .380 is full of Lehigh Defense XP's, the only reason i'll carry a .380

3" GP100 with Badger custom boot grips. Or a 2.75" Speed six with Badger boot grip. Or 5" 1911 if it's colder than t shirt and shorts weather.
Here's the Speed Six. Barrel says 38spl but I changed it out for an extra 357 Mag cylinder that came with the gun when I bought it. It has been beat to ****, looked like it had been run over several times while laying on a gravel road. Once I got the 357 cylinder fitted in and working perfectly, I spent plenty of hours with 3 grades of scotchbrite pads fixing the finish of 95% of the nicks/scratches/etc.
I emailed Badger and asked if he could make a boot grip similar to the one they catalog for the GP100. He said no prob, just order the gp100 boot grip and make a note in the order that the grip is for the SS. I asked that he make the grip .20" thinner than the gp100 grip, so my wife can get a solid grip on it with her smaller hands. I did have some concern about the hammer pin falling out, but it's not going anywhere. Badger said if I had any problem with the pin, they'd cut me a new set of grips no problem.
Once I had the grips installed and the finish fixed up, I decided that it needed a night sight on the front. I ordered a XS Sight for the sp101/jframe from Amazon for around $60 shipped and took an hour or so fitting it perfectly into the groove and getting it pinned in. The sight came with a tube of red loctite to secure the sight, but with a 10yr lifespan, I just pinned it so I can replace as needed in the future. It's super secure and loctite would make no difference.
I really like the Security/Speed/Police Six series but I'm looking to buy the unfluted 6" GP100 for my next revolver purchase.
My travel pistol is a Sig 229 in .40 S&W, concealed is a Walther PPK in .380.
In the summer its cargo shorts and t-shirts so my Kimber micro carry is in a pocket holster every where I go. Other wise it is either my Ruger lightweight commander or my Dan Wesson Eco in 9mm in a IWB holster
