    Gas check expander

Posting this here per someones request from a different topic.

I recently purchased 2000 aluminum gas checks and had major seating issues until i figured out they had an ID of 0.208" and my 223 bullets had a shank size of 0.216"

Came up with this makeshift expander to resize them quickly and they now work perfect.

It ain't pretty, but it works fast.

    Here's a quick video:

    https://youtu.be/KwlHUVSizOw.

If you get a double in the hole, or one pops in upside down, just pop of the white plastic part and poke it out.

The hole has to be small enough to center the check below the expander rod, but not to small that the check gets stuck. I drilled a tapered hole with a stepless drill bit from harbor freight.

The plastic is just scraps of PVC and acrylic i glued together with universal PVC pipe glue.

.208 is far too small. Send them back.

I have run a flat faced punch in the NOE gas check seater die in forster co-ax press to expand tight gas checks.

I have only done it with 35 cal gas checks, but the jaws center the gas check for the flat top punch well. I doubt it would work as well for the small 22 cal gas checks, but I'm sure something along those lines could be rigged up on another press.

I wish someone made, easy to use. expander dies for gas checks in 22, 30,35,44, and 45 caliber. I would buy them. Sometimes I have to throw boolits back into the melt and it would be nice to save and re-use the gas checks removed from these discarded boolits.
This country has gone to hell but now there is hope for us.

Hold a ball bearing in a pliers or forceps, lay the ball bearing on the mouth of the GC and tap gently until it's belled slightly.

Works better with a lubrisizer than a push through.
