    A Lead Eatin Mold

A Bud built a cannon and asked about making Him some Balls for it so He got His measures together and had a Friend machine Him up this - the Handles and brought it over I thought it looked like it would work but mentioned to him some handles would be nice and showed him some Boolit Molds with Handles on and off He went with his mold---Well---About a month and some change He shows back up and Dropped it Off 1st Ball on left 2nd on right Only thing I had to do was open the fill hole so I could get a Quicker fill I just clamp the mushroom in a vise and twist the ball off (looks like a trailer hitch Ball)

    Right around Heavy 14oz--Light 15oz
Not the Best off my Ph But thought I would add a Pic of My Buds Cannon

So how many can you cast before that locking clamp gets too hot to hold?

Still, that clamp looks like an elegant solution to the problem. What was it, $6 at Harbor Freight?

They actually didn't get that Hot The mold starts throwing frosty bullets and needs cooled down before I even thought about the Handles getting Hot I just wear my thick leather work Glove and thats enough
And I actually bought the clamp at a Flee market for 4 bucks

Add a jam nut to the adjuster thread set to lock with light tension and tighten jam nut and you have a cheap set of the Cabine locking mould holders.

I think a "pyramid" stack of these balls in a small wood retainer like you always see by cannons on battlefield displays would look "very cool"! Nice work "KUDOS" all around for the mould and your casting.Robert

That mold would be a good use for zinc casting. Lighter boolit and save your lead.

and that amigos is exactly why shadygrady traded lead for zinc ( at least until he ran out of lead ,which sadly was before i had built up enough zinc to trade for some lolz )

Is that an automotive gauge setting on top of your PID? What is the purpose of that?
This is one reason I get a kick out of looking at other casting set-ups. I almost always get a new idea.

You need a Brass Monkey, it is the brass plate with dimples in it to stack cannon balls in a pyramid. Interesting note, when sailing ships sail too far north or south the brass would contract to the point that the balls would not stay stacked. Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey, now you know the rest of the story.

How much black does that thing consume when it goes pop? What is the diameter of the casting? Very cool indeed.
