Link to Interesting Article on 360 DW (357 Maximum fans stay away)

I talked to Starline about a week ago. They say they run some of the "oddball" calibers at the begining of the year. I'm hoping that some of you .357 Handi Rifle owners will read the article at the link below and follow through to order some 360 DW brass. Starline does not charge your card until the brass ships! They just put you on the list. When there is enough demand, they'll run the brass and maybe we can finally get some 360 DW produced.

Anyway, back on topic. The claims of Mr. Spotti of the LASC suggest that 360 DW maybe a better choice than 357 Max. I've shot neither, mind you. I am just hoping to get some darn 360 DW made so I can optimize my Handi and not think about reaming it out, and waiting on Remington for their 357 Max brass. And, I think Starline makes some dang good brass. Check out the article.

    Howdy !

Say.... IF .360 Wesson is same case diam & Rim diam as that of .357Mag & .357Max; then I have a question or 2......

If you don't intend to " ream " your Handi "out ", then I summise it is a .357Max already ?

If that's the case, then how will your bullets in the .360 case ever reach the rifling ? On my .357Max SB2, I could not get bullets to reach the rifling.
Even 200s were ready to fall out of the case. Perhaps YOUR Handi does not have such a free bore ?

    Just wonderin.

    With regards,
    357Mag

I don't know about a Handi rifle, but my old 357 mag Contender barrel had alot of freebore. 180s would have very little in the case.
If anyone has a 300 Whisper Contender or Handi barrel cut for a rimmed case these might be just the thing as they are about the right length.

I think what he is saying is since the free bore is so long with the 357 magnum case chambering that using 360 DW brass even trimmed to a new OAL for the gun would give better fit.

I've been on the starline 360dw waiting list for 4 or 5 months now. I purchased a 357 mag handi from buds about 8 months ago. I've heard reports that the 360 brass will fit without trimming or reaming. I should probably try and measure...I'm a novice. I'll be requesting help for loads with alliant powders and the NOE 358429 when I get the brass.

I read where many H&R 357 mags, unmolested, will chamber a 360 DW perfectly, and take care of the free bore issues.
Plus, if it is a little bit short still, leave the boolit out to reach the rifling, now you can duplicate the Maxi loads without any work.

I use 360 DW in my HR and TC without any problems. I do have a factory handi in 357 max.

I received my 360 Dan wesson brass from starline today. It chambers in my 2013 buds gunshop purchased 357 mag handi-rifle. I have the NOE RCBS 35-200FN clone. Now I'm looking for loads. Am I safe with any non-compressed load of 4227?

Recently found a gentlemen who offered to sell me 60 some .360 DW brass for a reasonable price.

I took him up on his offer, offered even to pay more. He declined, brass arrived, was brand new, never fired, immaculate condition.

New scope, 3 shots just out of frame below the bull, adjusted scope, 3 more shots in a nice 1" triangle. Very near perfect just slightly left of center. Covered them with the sm black sticky target. Put 3 more shots into that hole. Only 50 yards, but yes I'm very happy shooting that .360 DW out of my untouched H&R Single Shot.

Back to range tomorrow, we'll start pushing it out to 100 and see what she will do.

You should be able to use Maxi loads provided you load to same LOA.

I got 250 last week. Going to try them in my Dave VanHorn 357 Max. I will try some with the boolit seated to the crimp grove and then move out as needed. Dave's barrels are chambered to factory specs, so they are not long throated like the Contender barrels.

FourSixty; Chris, this 360 brass seems perfect for the 357 Handis. Mine will accept brass up to 1.404. Will get with ya when I get two nickels to rub together. lol bought to rifles last month on SSI paycheck a little short at the moment. GP
